My 84 cj restoration

I introduced myself a few weeks ago and posted the start of the project. I thought it would be better to do it this way.
I am restoring my Jeep I got new. I got a SBC years ago. It has been parked.
I cleaned it. Then stripped down to frame and body. I installed a 2" body lift.
As of last night I have the frame and body painted with POR 15. The engine bay primed and painted.
This weekend I hope to have the axels installed. I am installing a shackle reverse kit and a BDS 4" lift.
A photo of skinny me in 84 with my grandfather.

You posted the thumbnail versions of the pics. Pretty hard to make out any detail.

I have not posted in a while. I have still been working on my CJ. I have been a little side tracked by a old Border Patrol Rubicon TJ I got for my son. Kind of neat they put a 4” lift and 33” BFG M/T on it. The air lockers a sweet. The first thing at the house we had to take it in the back to find mud.
Back to my CJ, I have got the Dana 30 back in. I installed a lock-rite and new seals. Need to take some photos.
I got my NV 4500 home. I bought it from a friend. I had him install the Advance Adapter kit to mate it to a Dana 300. I came from a very low mile 2wd gas GM truck. I got the GM bell housing and slave/though out bearing. I will need to install a clutch master cylinder. I hope to dummy it up this weekend for fitment. I might need to go with the Dana 300 twin stick shifter. The Transfer case sits about 5.5” further back. The trans shifter is close to the same spot as my old t-176. I would still like to use my factory console.
I need to get back on my rear end. My new longer RE spring/axle pads came in. I will weld my tubes to the 3rd member. The set the rear end angle when I get the engine and transmission installed.
I love how at first I told the wife I was going to bring the jeep in and knock the old dirt off, re-ring the 350 and install new breaks and rear axles.
new BDS lift, Reverse shackles, paint, new Ground Ponder Fab built bumpers front and back. New steering gear box and shaft. Were do I stop???? Basically a rebuild from the ground up.
My Chevy 383 ci was going to be a carb engine. Now I am waiting on my fuel injection unit to come it. I ordered a First System. Here is a photo link.

I am planning to run 12 x 36 tires. I know my axles are next. I will get the jeep running and driving first. I am pretty sure I will go with 4.88’s. I have 4.10’s now. My new engine should have tons of low end power. It looks that I will go with a 9” rear. The front will be a 9” or a Dana 44. While we are on that subject are all Dana 44 ends the same size? Say a GM truck. Will the cast “C’s” on the end of the housing take the Dana 30 knuckles?

This weekend I installed the JB Conversions HD output shaft, twin stick spring set and their LowMax 4 to 1 gear set in my Dana 300. I also got the NV 4500 dummied up with an old small block. Need to finish up the rear-end and get the transfer case install with the shifter then decide on final position.
It is all coming together slowly.

It has still been going slow. We have been working on my sons TJ’s.
Got the engine built, installing the FI unit. I have the NV 4500 and the Dana 300 4 to 1 installed. I modified the stock skid pan and mount to work. I think it came out good. I did not give up any ground clearance. I also welded the AMC 20 tubes.

Next need to swap out the dummy engine and run the fuel lines.
I will try to get some photos.

Gotta' love working on two Jeeps at once; I can relate, but in reverse... I work on my TJ, dad's CJ5, and dad's F-250, so none of them ever get attention for long periods...

Keep it up, looking good!

The Paint is color Garnet. It was used from 84 to 86. I got the Jeep new. I need to get back to work on it.

The first USBP Jeep came out great. Still have a little more work. Need to update the TJ post. They show up time to time at sales.

Ask a used car dealer in your area to check the auctions. My son is loving it.

I have been away a long time. To many other projects. I have made up my mind. The AMC 20 and Dana 30 will go now not later. Now to decide Ford 9"s or Dana 60's.

Here is how I modified my skid plate for the NV4500. I sectioned and welded a .25 plate in. I twin sticked the Transfer Case. I had to tweak the shifters so I could use my factory console. The NV4500 is longer than my old t-176.

Here is the 383 that is going in. Need to plumb the fuel rails and install the engine harness.
