My 1977 CJ7 Daily Driver project
Mission Statement: Create a *dependable* daily driver
The white beast
Issue #1 - Leaky valve gasket, cleaned, replaced
Issue#2 - Driver's side rear lights, all work but running lights?!?! (No wiring experience, this ought to be fun!, I'll take any help I can get)
Issue#3 - All I can say is wtf happened?
Shocks on order, replaced wipers, Is it common for the heater to be warm, but weak blowing? Living in Colorado I want to upgrade to a more powerful heater? Any thoughts?

Chevy blower upgrade! Just did it, it makes a world of difference. Look it up, easy as pie.
Make sure you bench test the blower motor before install! They run about $25 at autozone.

Post a separate question so people know what you're asking - people who know may not be reading this thread. I'm not certain of the answer, found some stuff via google search but still not sure. Sounds like at the very least a different blower motor is involved, +/- wiring and fabrication differences.
Is that a rattle can job? Looks good if so. I'm holding off on any real paint until time I can afford a new tub, but the primer gray is starting to get old...

You'd be surprised how even replacing the oem blower with a new one wil help. Remember that thing is 33 years old. A new one, even an exact replacement, should and wil blow better. Just a.suggestion. remember the faster you move air through the heater core the cooler it will get so you need to be able to keep that hot water flowing. So maybe upgrade to a 195 degree thermostat.
Looks good! Keep going!!

I had the same issue with my tail lights being all hacked up. PO had a towing harness wired in and it was all jacked up. i removed the towing harnes and just started over with tracing/rewiring/grounding.
try this schematic. it helped me a ton.
remember, the housings ground to the body so check inside the housings for rust at the bulb connectors, bolt holes, and backside of housings.

Thanks guys. As much trouble as it's been, it's actually alot of fun. Walker, yeah It's a quick rustoleum, I'm sanding out the rusty spots, cleaning it up, then spraying her down with a couple coats, then I'll do a clear coat. Not worried about a professional paint job, if there is one thing I've learned with offraod vehicles, paint is the last thing I'm worried about...
Yeah someone hacked in a wire harness on this jeep too, I hate wiring, I'm colorblind, so I always steer clear of it, but this time I'm on my own doing it.
As far as the heater, I think I'm going to replace the blower, see where that gets me.

Hey, I have a '77 myself and will subscribe so I can follow your project and help with any issues. The blower motor upgrade is great, but I'm pretty sure you have to have the heater box that has the actual motor in the engine compartment. I initally had the old box with the motor by the pass. feet, and I ended up having to find the newer style box that has it in the firewall. It can probably be done, but I'm not sure why the old box wouldn't work as easy. Check CL daily and you'll come across one.

I have a '77 CJ7 and if the blower motor is not through the firewall panel there is no such upgrade. They switched the motor in '77 I believe (half way through). I have the inside one as well. Makes it easier if you ever have to change it but you wont get the blazer motor power =/

Thanks Dborns... I can use the help. I'm learning, everyday I'm doing something on it. For instance today is wiring the drivers side rear lights. I'm going to post for help/ideas.

Oops... Autozone sent me the blower motor...
The good thing is, taking apart the heater assembly I understood it more, fixed a couple small holes, saw how it worked, and now it works alot better... I'm sending this goofy motor back.
Also, I was thinking there is no way to remove the flywheel without busting it off, I tried a lil but didnt want to split it.
