Here is a nice, informative interview about the Rubicon Trail that I love so much...

It sure seems like the rest of the country has more nice places to take a vehicle offroad than we do in Texas.

That is the thing about California... If you can get passed the liberal politics, it can be a wonderful place to live!!!

It has been awhile since I have updated this thread and driven my Jeep for that matter. I have been very busy with beekeeping:

also busy with my youngest in the duck blind, here she is with her 1st 2 ducks:

of course, if you shoot them, you clean them:

Back to topic CJ, got out today with SonicR1 to Hollister Hills. I took a friend's son (he has a '07 JK) and met Sonic out there. As Sonic mentioned, it didn't take long to grenade a brand new Warn lock out. No big deal, I had 2 spares with me just in case. Took the 10 minutes to replace it and back at it, having fun. Well, 2 hours later I blew both of my spares up too!!!

Is it me? I thought I was fairly easy on the throttle. I had sheared 2 grade 8 bolts off in the hub, severely bent 2 more bolts with only 1 really still useful. The passenger side hub is shot, 2-3 of the 5 bolt holes are all wallowed out. I am now back in the camp where it is time to upgrade to the 6 bolt hub/lock outs. I need new hubs anyway. I have always liked the idea of the fuse being at the lock out vs. U joint or axle but 3 lock outs on the same side in 2 hours just doesn't seem right. Stay tuned, I will let you know where I go with this...if you have suggestions, I am all ears...

this is what 3 shot lock outs look like

In the end though, I had a great day, got to hang with Sonic , teach my pal's son how to properly and safely drive his Jeep and hang out with my daughter and her friend. As a bonus, sometime in the near future, I get to wrench a little more on the CJ.

On a side note, lots of JK's, TK's and LJ's but only 1 other CJ. We are becoming scarce...

Duck hunting. A true disease! I don't know how you can tell what kind of duck is coming at you. I just know them all us ducks! The only duck I ever killed, cleaned, and cooked was awful! I will stay with the 4-legged, whitetail ducks!

The blown lockouts is a complete mystery. I have never broken one in the 25 years I have been using 4WD vehicles. You sure all the bolts are getting torqued properly during install?

Decisions have been made and parts have been ordered...I have decided to upgrade to the 6 bolt hub conversion...nothing earth shattering to the CJ gurus out there but I will take pics during the install and report back once I have all the necessary parts in hand...

I have been busy as a bee around here lately but I finally had a chance to upgrade my busted 5 bolt lock outs to the 6 bolt hub with the Warn premium lockouts. A couple of pictures is all I took as this install is covered ad nauseam here on the CJ Forum. The only glitch I came across was my own fault when, in haste, I installed the outer bearing on the inside not knowing it until I went to slide the hub/rotor all greased up onto the spindle. It would't slide on and I realized my mistake immediately. One more trip to the auto parts store to get an inner seal and I was back in business. Let that be a lesson to you, go slow and take your time! I am looking forward to the Summer time...
