mud in brake drum??

did a little wheeling yesterday in some mud and water... now when i brake i hear some grinding/dragging noises from the rear. could i have gotten mud inside the drum? will it just work itself out? that was one of my first off road adventures, so i don't know if this is just a common thing or what... thanks!

ok im an expert at this. this happens to me daily.

on the back of the drum is a little black plug, its for the adjustment for the shoes. this is there so when you first do your brakes you stick a flat hea dint here and turn a little spurred knob that adjusts the shoes out so they are stiffer. now

when this plug is missing or rotted out its a gapping whole for everything and its mother to get int he drums. id check that to see if its there.

second, drums will always get some sort of stuff in there because its not a sealed deal. there is a little slight gap between the drum and the backign to the drum that the shoes and all attach to. a little sand and such will get int here.

if you here grinding just take it to the power washer and spray the hell outta the drums so the water flushes everyhting out. trust me this works

sounds like a good technique... where in jersey are you? i am starting to hear that this is a jersey-specific problem due to our fine quality sandy silt mud in the pine barrens... another reason to love jersey!

I live in Morristown, well north of the pinelands, but spend my summers in Lavallette, and spend a TON of time down in Gloucester and Cape May counties... my buddy lives there, with hiw fully equipped garage, so i go there to do most of the wrenching.
