Does anybody have any suggestions on moving the drivers seat back on a CJ-7. In its furthest position I still can't get myself quite enough leg room. I could redrill and set spacers but I was wondering if anyone has seen any aftermarket adapters for such a thing.
I tell you what if you come up with anything, let me know, Im 6'5. I am just about finished restoring My 78 CJ7 and I customized the seats a bit myself. I used the original frames, removed the seats, bolted a piece of sheet steel on top of the frames drilled new holes for the seats in the sheet steel and bolted them on. The cost of the steel was about 26 bucks and I used grade 8 bolts just for safety. Im a little concerned with having weight not all the way on top of the frames but I dont think it should be a problem. Let me know what you think
That sounds like a good way to do it! I'm about 6'4" and I have to get in and out just the right way or my legs get wedged. Also getting my knee up high enough in between the door and the steering wheel to get my left foot on the clutch is a little tricky, another reason to look forward to summer when I can take the doors off
You way is a good idea, how thick was the sheet metal?
I went a different route when I was putting my 74' CJ5 together. Since my seats were pretty beat up anyway, I used a set of seats out of a GEO. Yes, I know a GEO, but, they were worked awesome. GEOs have NO legroom in the back, so I was able to move them all the way back in the tub because the seatback was only about 3-4'' wide. My 6'3" friend was able to drive my 5 for hours without any problems. I know that this is way different then what you talking about, but I wanted to give you another perspective. The only obstacle is though you will have to make brackets...not that hard to do (I used 1/4" thick by 1 3/4 flat stock)
