My friend down the street has the Howell on his 86 cj7 and loves it. Has even moved it from jeep to jeep as he kills them.

Edelbrock has a kit too. I've always leaned toward them for performance just because of the cool window sticker you get to put up afterwards, lol.

Just have to add my $.02: I bought my MPI 7-8yrs ago. Had some problems recently (not a MPI breakdown), the guys at hesco were great, support me all the way. I love it, however it does not like other upgrades on your 258.
But the support is excellent!

I know a couple people with the mopar kit. Both absolutely love it. It's about as close as you can get to factory injection on a 4.2

have the mopar kit and love it. initial bugs worked out and it rocks! Props to lee hurley and benney -- their suggestions made a great kit even better-- we went w/ an in tank fuel pump and that made all the difference. multi-port is the way to go!

I also have a desire to go with mopar fi system. Coming from stock and converting the way you did it (with in tank) what would you say you need to buy? Obviosly the kit, but do you need new tank or anything else? Also what would you say an estimate of your total conversion cost was?

total cost was about 3k. i already had a EFI rated Aero 33 gal tank but the HESCO initial design uses an external fuel pump. that caused me all sorts of problems with the pump de-priming and tha tu sually happened when least expected and far from home. Its a kick to the gut to have it suddenly stumble and fail on the trail. Once i had to use the jerry can as a temp fuel tank. The design passes the fuel lines above the exhaust and the lines quickly dry our and all it takes is a pin hole leak on the suck side and you're dead in the water. Getting it re-primed in the field is a PITA and the key on, key off routine does not work. Either short the pins on the pump relay or manually power the pump with a length of wire. A fuel pressure gauge is priceless-- it screws right onto the fuel rail schrader valve. This simple tool helps to eliminate non issues.
some use a YJ style tank and pump. Save the pump that comes with the kit and keep for a trail emergency spare. And always carry spare filters and a supply of rubber EFI rated fuel lines.
i'm using the return fuel line system. this is better IMO over the single fuel line system since it permits adjustment of the fuel pressure.
once the bugs are worked out, and there are several, it works great. when our junk runs good, we love it. But when the rig has issues, is so very frustrating...
good luck

Absolutely the best upgrade I have done and, like others have said, Hesco is fantastic about product support and service...well worth the investment...

I just can't justify the cost of the Mopar kit. A junkyard MPFI conversion is not that complicated and is much cheaper, but gives you the exact same results. Or find a 4.0L head and buy the Painless Performance Perfect 4.0L kit for $1000 that includes and ECM and all the wiring needed to make it run.

The Jeep CJ Rebuilders Manual states that it's a 50+hp upgrade, in addition to better mileage and driveability to boot.
Nothing else that is so easy to do to a 258 will make as much difference.

i have a 2009 mopar high proformance injection system on my 86 cj7 and i love it. it starts right up on a cold morning, its very responsive and great on gas mileage. but i have to run premiun gas through it. it freaks ppl out that a old jeep like that starts up and runs so well.
