I know mine doesn't have anything like that either but it's not exactly stock or has every option. I'm going to guess it is from a later model year and maybe something to do with a hard top or a backing plate for the door latch.

Ok MoC,

I just went outside and completely dissassembled my '78 CJ7 and never came across that part, now...will you come help me put it back together

Its the door striker plate spacer backer!!! Goes between tub and threaded plate for the screws that hold the striker on....Just now remembered where I saw that on my jeep a while back

Would be on a 76-81 jeep with the handle latches, instead of the later paddle ones with post..you can see the striker plate in my avitar....the rusty looking thing on the top corner of body by the seat back..

Theres nothing in the photo to give a size reference...thats why crime scene photos have the rulers in the frames.

Kinda looks like an ac tub gasket or older CJ defrost gasket...but I could be way off base too...

EDIT: Great. You named it while I was typing!

That would explain why I did not take that part of my '84. This game is rigged.

I think I might have won that round, I at least got half of it right. Not bad considering I've never seen one before but your hint did narrow it down.

This will be fun.

You guys with doors have all the luck. Never find that on a CJ 5.

Umm...shouldn't these mystery parts be something we all are familiar with? Anyone with an '81 or newer CJ would never have got this one.

Just a suggestion to make your little game more equitable for all of us.
