MoC, you are taking "rock" crawling to a new level...I would say after looking at the pic again that your CJ has pretty good articulation...

Well not much to report from the home front this week. Have driven the Jeep everyday for the last 7 and put around 80 miles on it, not bad for not being a daily driver. Painted and installed my ashtray, lighter, and knee duct friday. Had the knee duct and the lighter mount when I bought it, but took it all out over a year ago when I replaced my steering column and never got around to putting it back in. I got the ashtray off ebay a while ago as well. The lighter wire was dead and the ground was missing. Ran a dedicated fused wire from the battery for power and grounded it off.

What column did you use? I think you posted that info awhile back but I am too lazy to go back through it!

Bought a remaned column off of ebay for $280, thinking about it now it was back in nov 2009. My orignal column that was in the jeep when I bought it had a scary amount of play in it. It would flop up, down, left, and right about 3/4 inch. The force was not as strong with me as it is now so I scratched the crude out of it when installing as you can see in the last picture. Was thinking today that I need to go back and repaint it. Gives me something to do this week after work.

So have not been doing any work on my jeep this month, just enjoying a good running Jeep. Went for my "loop" drive as I call it today, around 35 miles of 65mph - 55mph out of town small highways. Taking my bug screen off has helped to get my running temp down 8-9 degrees at speed which is nice.

After the ride came home and found a new oil leak. Yeahh, that makes me happy. Started leaking where the dizzy stabs in to the block. Not much at all, but any is too much. Just enough to put a drop or two on the starter and oil pan. Soooo guess I am going to fix that in the next few days. Nothing like pulling and restabing the dizzy for a 20 cent gasket.

I have never had or seen a leak there before.....

when you put it back, use a little bit of the gasket dressing that comes in packets. I did and the stuff dries but stays slightly rubbery, I stopped all my oil leaks after I did that!

Yeah was thinking about using some permatex #2 one it, its the non harding type.

You happy with the column? I see that guy on ebay all the time and was thinking about the same when I start my resto.

Paul, it was money well spent! It has been great. After looking at the rebuild threads on columns I decided it was worth $280 for someone else to do it. The only thing that did not fit perfectly was the tilt lever. I had to rethread mine a size smaller to fit in the column.
