They then swapped in my factory gaskets. Guess what... Didn't run right. They could not get it to idle below 1000 rpms. He could not find any vac leaks around my gaskets and checked several times. They are now at a total loss of why it will not run now as well...
When I was trying to get it to run I went through 2 plastic spacers and 5 sets of paper gaskets and the thick isolator gaskets so I am sure it is nothing specific to the gaskets themselves. Only 2 companies make the gaskets and I tried both of them.
So they are now checking two see if they have any AMC 2150 cores to rebuild and try with the factory AMC gaskets.
Why not try and get closer to 1/4" to see what it does...just a wild guess...
I can't imagine the height would make a difference. People put 1" - 2" spacers on 350's for performance without issues. The amc spacer is designed to insulate the carb from the engine so the fuel does not boil. The older ones like yours Steve are spaced up off the manifold about the same amount with the metal spacer and gasket.
I just can't imagine what it could be. It's all factory setup and installed on every jeep waggy 360 ever made and it runs on them.

Unlike the original one that broke, I have never seen this carb on a running 360. It came off a 85 grand waggy 360. It seems to be the carb the engine came with. Its a later model amc 2150 carb, judging by the external power valve hook up, and it had all the factory gaskets on it.
The 2150 that broke had the exact same base as this one. I compared them and they were matches.

One post suggested blocking the vacuum port to the chock assembly. (see pic below)
I'm wondering if the difference in gaskets relates to this vac port......?
The gasket they test on looks just like the old style gaskets from the early 70's AMC v8's like Steve has. I looks like they make them by tracing a template based off the old style.
The one they make and the factory one both cover up the base of the carb completely and have the same cut outs. Both over the choke vac source the same
The problem with running just the gasket that they make is the fuel in the carb can boil from the engine heat. The AMC's and Ford's used a spacer / isolator plate between the manifold and the carb to keep the heat away. With the AMC its 3 separate parts.
Just hope they have another 2150 core they can rebuild that will run.
I just cant get past the fact that its all factory and should work. It not like I am piecing together different parts.. Should run with what it came from the factory with..
It doesn't make sense.... They found no vac leaks, no problems and the only difference is less that 1/2 a inch in height...
