Picked up my fenders, grill, and hood from my craigslist painter today. The came back with a little orange peel, but that was expected with how cold it was when I needed it done. Pretty much picked the coldest time of the year and the guys shop does not get as hot as you really need. I am thinking it will buff out. As long as it does I and happy with what I got for what I paid. He did not do a good job with the rock dings on the grill. You can still see some under the new paid. Once they are installed I will do my little repairs to them.

Jenns working again this weekend so my time it going to be limited to what I can get done with the kiddos home with me. I think I might try to get the grill supports rods painted and ready to go so I can installed the grill on Sunday.

In the pics, the paint looks pretty good. Unless you're building a show truck, you want a little orange peel, like from the factory.

If there's more than you like, then yes...you can wet sand and buff it out.

I don't think it looks that bad. I agree with Rich, wet sand abd buff it. Just don't burn through the clear. Do you know how many coats he did?

MoC,

I just looked at your pics on the paint thread.

I'm certainly no expert, and I think you've gotten some solid advice on that thread. But I'm wondering if the orange peel is actually in the clear coat, or the base coat? If the base was applied too heavy, then the clear was applied over that without wet-sanding first, I'm not sure buffing the clear will make the orange peel go away. Someone please correct me, if I'm wrong.

BTW, buffing out imperfections is quite an art. I tried on a few pieces that I botched. I was never able to achieve the same finish as on the pieces I sprayed correctly, so I ended up sanding the botched pieces with 400 grit and re-sprayed them.

Lastly, again in my not-so-expert opinion, I think you got a pretty fair paint job for what you paid for it.

Matt

I am prepared! Spent some time in Shermin Williams the other day talking to the auto guy and getting some advise.

Matt, you had my heart sink a little! Hope it's just in the clear and I did not think about the possibility of it in the base. We shall see!
