T-minus 1 day till vacation, we pull out tomorrow morning for Colorado. Stopping over in Amarillo,Tx tomorrow night then arriving in Durango, CO Sunday around 2pm. So much to do today ..

Went to the Toyota body shop this am for the insurance estimate. They wrote it up as vandalism, meaning our comprehensive will cover it 100%. Its a $1450 fix. They are going to fix the dent and not have to replace the panel. I was a little surprised at how much labor is involved.

17.3 hours for the body work @ $50 / hr
5.3 hours for the paint work @ $50 / hr
.3 hours to pull the glass @ $50 / hr
$174 in materials

Takes a lot of time for that much Bono to cure and shape properly.

I had a brand new Onmi that a lady back into the rear door and caved the whole side of the door in. .
The body shop I was sent to FILLED the dent in with Bondo. Did not even try to
I finally made them skin the door and put in a new panel.
On a door it's easy to do that. Probably took less time than filling the dent.

I've got an M38a1 that I'm working on. I've taken a body hammer to the inside of several panels and with one good wack, I've sent hand sized chunks of the stuff fying more than once.

My brother is a body man. Those hours come from what the book says it takes to fix it. If he gets a job that says it should take 17 hours, he gets paid for 17 hours, no matter if it takes him 10 hours or 30. Probably not the best motivation to do the highest quality of work, depends on who is working on it though.

Checking in from Amarillo. Tired and the kidos are amped up from being in the car all day...

Leaving out for Durango in the morning...

When I brought the SUV to Toyota I asked them a little about how they fix it. Guess it pretty common now, but I didn't know. They sand the paint down and weld these stud things to the metal. Then a tool like a slide hammer attaches to the studs and pulls the dent out. They get cut off, skimmed, then painted.

Great day. Took the train up to Silverton.

We had about 2.5 hours to explore there before heading back.

Saw some cool jeeps today. Founds a nice 75 CJ5, nice Jeepster, and a few other 7's.

The winner for my favorite jeep of the day was this nice Limited.

Leaving out early in the morning for Ouray to do our first jeep day, a ride with San Juan Jeep Tours. After that heading to Aspen. Stopping on the way in Delta for some cantaloupes. They grow best their that can be found.
