Mechanical fuel pump fitment issues...

I believe the fuel pump in my CJ pooped the bed... I bought a new one from vatozone and now I cant seem to get it in the engine. The arm on the new one seems to be a little longer. the section from the pump to the bend seems to be about 1/4 inch longer. anyone else run into this? part numbers line up from rock auto, to advanced, to autozone.

thanks in advance.

Send us a little more detail on the engine, year, etc.., and some pics if you can.

The length should not matter that much, as it does not take that much arm action to pump fuel.

Here are a few things to try:

Make sure that you have it in right side up. Some models are different.

Try bumping the engine over a little and see if it will go in easier against a different part of the cam, and

Measure the length of the arm from the gasket surface, and stick a dowel in the opening and see if it will go in to the same distance, You may need to grind off a little of the end of the arm.

its a 4.2L 6cyl... 1984... I measured the arm and the part from the pump to the bend on the arm is about 1/4 inch longer. not from the bend to the tip.
