Master Cylinder Question - Should this be leaking?

Hey Gang....I'm replacing my master cylinder and my new one (a NEW, (not reman) Dorman unit) starting leaking right here at the main piston pedal diaphragm while I was bench bleeding.

Is it OK to leak here? It come with a rubber boot to close over it, not currently installed.

It just seems like this should be sealed...I dunno.

1980 Jeep CJ5 MANUAL brakes.

Lemme know your thoughts, I appreciate the help!

You can see the little puddle at the bottom of the cylinder...

That should not be leaking.

Most definitely not! I went through a bunch of remanned ones that all leaked there when bench bleeding. Ended up having to change brands.

Nope! That's a reason to replace or rebuild the master cylinder.

Facepalm...thanks guys...kinda figured.

Is there any other MC option other than Cardone or Dorman?????

I thought I was safe going with a new, not reman'd...but apparently not.

Not a big fan of Cardone, but I'm willing to give them a shot, if those are the only two MC suppliers out there.

This post is a good lesson to remind folks to bench bleed their master cylinder. Doing that lets you check if it's leaking or not, before it goes in the Jeep.
