looking at this cj is it a good deal

this jeep has a asking price of 3900. it has 101k on it and looks pretty clean. the motor has been changed to efi and its a inline six. drivetrain looks stock. jeep has a 3 in lift and the shackles look new. do you think the price is too high or ok?

Complete with an 8-ball knob!

Check to see if the po changed the oil! I got ripped off on my Jeep because the po did not change his oil. The oil cap was packed with thick sludge. This ultimately led to buying a brand new engine. It 'looks' like a good deal but does it 'drive' like a good deal?

Looks pretty good to me. What does the undercarriage look like? I would have no problem paying 3900 for it but I would ask if he would take 3500.

Definitely check the oil and drive it. From the small bit of frame I see in the pic up front it looks solid. The engine compartment looks clean but really look it is easy to clean a motor with a pressure washer. If it runs good and shifts good it doesn't appear to be a bad deal.

Drive it and check for rust. If it all checks out, I wouldn't "look" to long. Someone will snatch that up.

Check under that carpet COMPLETELY for Rust, If it runs out good and no Rust on frame. Start at $3500, Quickly!

SlicRic beat me to it - Definately look under the carpet in the floor pan area. Usually the first place rot holes show up.

that doesn't appear to be an unreasonable asking price at all, but some info on the condition of everything else would be helpful...

Looks like the engine has been swaped. I thought an 1985 had a Carb. That one looks like fuel Injection.

From the looks of the fuel rail, you've got a 4.0 H.O. motor there, although the valve cover looks a little funky. Hope you don't mind an extra 70-75 H.P.

It's amazing how good paint can look over top of rust. I have seen them totally rusted out with the original paint still shiny. Check the body mounts, too.

Which would lead me to believe it's a 258 with the Mopar MPFI kit and not a 4.0L.
