Looking at buying a CJ7!

I am looking at a 1985 CJ7. It has 4.2 and the T5 @ 115k miles.
It looks clean and unmolested. Can't see any rust. Paint and interior are clean.

They are asking $9000 for it. I see CJ7s going for about this price around my area. I was wondering if this is normal for price?

Looking forward to joining you guys here.

Its a very high price, not saying its not worth it becausw worth is how bad you want it. Most cj7 sell about 2500-3500

Post some pics of it and you should get some more accurate opinions

Craigslist listing

Looks like a nice example, just depends on what you are looking to accomplish. This one looks pretty turn key, but does seem about 2K high for what it is. There are a few others in the Mobile craigslist that look nice and are a little closer to what I would expect.

As long as everything checks out on the one you posted (all the steering stuff is in good shape, T-case if smooth, trans is smooth, engine holds good compression) you would not go wrong for a weekend cruiser. Personally, my biggest concern on the one you listed would be the trans. At 115K a T4 or T5 is not long for the world before a rebuild. I would also check under the hood and dash to see how much of a mess has been made out of the wiring.

If you are looking to modify it I would look to one that has a little more groundwork done as it is exponentially cheaper to build off of someone else's project than tho start from scratch.

great looking jeep and might be well worth it if you must have a cj7

but for that money and maybe just a little more you could have a much later model that will ride and drive much better, and still have round headlights.

 You sure it's a Jeep? :D

I'd say $7,500-$7,900 would be a fair price for a dealer sale. $8,900 would make sense if it were a Laredo package in that condition, but the base version shouldn't be that high. If you need that particular Jeep, plan on keeping it because you'll most likely lose money if you try and sell it any time soon.

if you go for this one be weary of the body, i spy a new paint job and the remnants of bondo. go to your auto parts store and get a guage that tells you the thickness of the bondo. it is a little magnet that has a guage attached to it and it extends unill it breaks free giving you a good idea of how thick it is.

I'm with Davis. It's been molested enough to make it worth "less" than 9k, IMO. Rollbar is not factory, paint isn't original (you can see red paint in the front fender to tub gap), wheels are obviously not original, nor are the wide flares and chrome "accents". It's a nice Jeep, but I'd be wary of bondo. Getting a good look at the underside ought to reveal a good bit as well. Florida CJ prices run high just like South Carolina, but I'd try to avoid paying 9k unless you absolutely can't walk away from it.:D

I'd say yes - that thing has JOOP written all over it. When did that switch take over?

I'm with MoC on this one. "Lipsticked pig" is a perfect description at that price.

I really think you can do better.

The only thing throwing me off of the tub swap is the gas filler opening is on the right hand side...But they could have cut a new opening.
