Lets upgrade my 84 CJ7 Brakes!
My 84 CJ7 runs 35 inch tires with the 258 and auto transmission...no off roading so just need good stopping power. Although the front discs and rear drums have relatively new pads it doesn't stop like I would want it. Everything else looks stock and original except for the M/C. I don't feel any vacuum leaks in the booster, but it sure looks 30+ years old. This past summer, I took the 35's off and put on a set of 30.5's from my Jeepster Commando for about a week and I really noticed a difference in stopping power. I take the jeep off the road during the winter to tackle projects like these so what say you? What can I do within reason to get this to behave better?
84 CJ7 258, 2150 TFI nuttered 2" shackle lift 33's
70 Jeepster Commando 225 HEI 3spd 2" lift
It is the extra weight of the 35s compared to the weight of the 30.5s that make it harder to stop. You are fighting linear and centrifugal forces when stop.
Paved roads are prime examples of government over spending!
Change to hydroboost and http://www.ebay.com/itm/Baer-05110-0....c100011.m1850. Will make a world of difference in stopping power
It used to be, God bless America, it has become God help America
If you don't offroad, just step down a size or 2 in tires. Stock brakes work well enough with 33" or less. Will probably cost less and drive better/safer.
When I was younger, I thought I was Don Quixote... turns out I'm just another donkey-hootie.
