8274 off craigslist.. ~ 1984 model.

dad and i built the mounting plate...
on the side, we milled "T" slots so lengths of chain can be secured (or the hook stowed)

cool little project..

Does anyone know who might have one of those original CJ mount plates with the "W" stamped in it?

I like the low mounting location. What did you do about the stamped steel crossmember that used to be in front of your grill?

Love that 8274 !

True story: When my wife and I moved to Amherst, NH (been 10 years ago now) - we had been in our house about a week. Trash is taken to a transfer station to be disposed of, so I gathered up our trash, and asked my wife if she wanted to go check it out. When we arrived, I saw the scrap metal pile and though I'd walk over and check it out. On the ground was sitting a complete 8274 !!!!! And a sign at the pile said "no picking" well I told my wife to cover me, and I grabbed that winch and tossed it into the back of my pickup. Drove home, hooked up 12 Volts, and the darn thing worked !! Did a rebuild & installed it on the front of my CJ, and it's been sitting there ever since. I still get giddy just thinking about it
