Reason: cant spell
back when I had my CJ5 I found a guy on CL giving away a fiberglass hardtop and doors for a CJ5. said his buddy left them in his garage and he wanted them out of the way.
but the latest steal for me is my new 73 Commando...
rebuilt 304, t18a w/granny 1st, twin-stick dana 20, dana 44s front and rear w/4.56 gears and both locked, roll cage tied to frame and lots of homemade body armor. it had 33" boggers on it that were basically new and a 33" BFG AT that was brand spankin new as a spare. he also threw in a full Holly Projection TBI kit (used, but all there...).
the guy was asking $3k for it when I test drove it. there were a few issues here and there, so I figured I'd offer him $2500 and see what he says. I didn't even get a chance to make the offer because he texted me the next day asking me if I wanted it for $2k...
um, yes please.

Cracked my aluminum valve cover, and went to the internet to find a replacement. Found an aluminum valve cover, stock head, intake, and exhaust. All for 50 bucks. Talking to him at his house that night, I called him within the first half hour of him post on CL. Great deal and timing.
Build it, Break it, build it again.
My best CL find - A full cutting rig - 175 cf oxygen bottle, 310 cf acetylene, cart, victor torch, striker, tips and a tip cleaner, $190. Couldn't touch any one component for that total price. Required new gauges (which I had).
My favorite CL find - a 1949 Chevrolet 3800 Truck, dual rear wheel, stakebed. Was put up in a barn, and ran without hesitation upon introduction of fresh gasoline. $600 and a 19 hr round trip to pick it up in Wichita KS
My latest deal - a Fisher stereo system, in perfect condition with 2 large speakers, amp, tuner, cd player, tape deck, and turntable for the shop. Probably a $2000 system new, $40 bucks. Plus I'm about to list the tape deck and turntable on eBay for $20 each. If they sell, its a real good deal!
What I'm shooting for now - looking at a oak dining table and 4 chairs tonight for $100 and a TJ cage for $50 tomorrow. We shall see...
Got a black and decker valve and valve seat grinder with a toolbox full of stones and stuff for 500.
And then from a mechanic that was retiring I got a kwik way model f boring bar with the complete tooling set for 350 plus a hone and piles of other tools for a additional 100 (among all that was a valve spring tester and they seem to go for over 500, just need to calibrate it)
150 for a set of non locking red fiberglass half door with the older style cj latches
Rebuilt tf999 for 275.
4.0 head with 88k miles for 20.
Really not jeep related but I've got a ton of old game consoles cheap from craigslist (like collecting them)
My most recent thing I got was after I posted a wanted add on CL. I bought a Dana 30/AMC 20, regeared to 4.10s, with a Truetrac front and trac-lok rear, with one piece axle shafts, for 500 bucks. Complete. Still have the brakes attached.
