Let's talk about cable shifters

My TF727/NP208 needs a shifter. I have several mechanical shifters, but it looks like to make them work, I will need to fabricate a bunch of brackets.

I'm thinking maybe a cable shifter is the way around that. Problem is, I have absolutely no experience with cable shifters.

I'd like to hear your opinions on them. What to look for etc...

I went with the B&M Megashifter on mine. Really simple, sits nice and high, is fully adjustable, and works awesome! Even comes with lighted gear indicator, neutral safety and reverse lockout built in. Can't beat it!

I need to more clear. Sorry. I'm talking about a cable shifter for the tranfer case. I have a column shift for the auto.

'85 CJ7, BDS 4" lift, 1" Body lift, 33x12.5, Shrockworks Sliders, 304 V8 with RV cam., T-176, D300, Dana 30, AMC 20.

They tried transfercase cable shifters early on and found that due to infrequent use, they had a bad habit of corroding and freezing up.

Good point! Since I live in the desert, corrosion won't be a problem for me. Maybe for the next guy though

They look like they could make just about anything,keep us posted on what you find out with them.I have admired their products for some time.

Luckily for us,technology has come a long way since early on days....

So true! I just e-mailed them.

The NP208 is just a simple lever operation. If the lever were closer to the tunnel, I could just extend it. But being a good foot below the floor pan, the travel would be too much. I have a floor shifter from a qudratac that would work with a bunch of brackets, but...

What about a thicker tranny tunnel? If I made a strong enough cover, I could use it to spread the load. Hmmmmm!

Hey BioTex...did you ever figure this out? What route did you go? I'm at this point in my project.

Building out a Jeep is like trying to smother a fire with twenty-dollar bills. You just never have enough at once to put it out...
