I want to buy something to listen to in my CJ, what works good?

Flowmasters.

What I've done in mine and a couple buddies with TJa is a alpine 5 channel amp under the back seat. 4" in the dash. 6.5 in my sound bar (I have a family bar) and a boxed, down firing JL10 sub, that is carpeted and has a little storage tray on top. Still room for junk in back too. Sounds pretty darn good.

Kenwood marine head in Tuffy security console, Kenwood 2-way speakers in dash, Kenwood 3-way speakers rear in Tuffy enclosures, Kenwood self powered sub-woofer mounted under passenger seat.

Works good.

I think the best dash speakers help with being able to hear them. I had the wedge that goes on the floor in my last jeep, but didnt like them. I hated the space they took up and looked crappy.

The problem I have is that I have to have it so loud at hwy speed, then I stop at a light an everyone near me has to listen to the Grateful Dead till the light changes. I wish you could buy a speed controlled receiver like most new cars have

Jim,

Here's my setup.

1. Retrosound head unit
2. Bazooka MCC 5252 front speakers
3. Infinity Kappa 6x9 rear speaker in Sound Wedges
4. Rockford BDS 300W amp in center console

The head has no CD player, but that's old technology, anyway. It does have an AUX connection for a phone or music player. The whole system cranks louder than I'll ever listen to it.

Matt

4-6" rounds, AM/FM/CD/USB/Aux head unit. Self contained in the cooler with its own batteries or can be powered off of the jeep. Need to work out an antenna setup, but most times I am either playing from the music library on the usb stick or from my phone. Eventually need to upgrade to a Bluetooth head unit for cord free from the phone. Works good by the pool, on the river, in the boat, around the campfire, etc., etc.

Alpine head unit, 4 channel amp under passenger seat, subwoofer amp under drivers seat alpine EQ in center console, sub woofer speakers in trunk area, 6 x 9 behind front seat in VDP boxes arranged to roll bar and speakers in the dash.

I have no problems hearing my stereo with the hardtop off on the highway

I do agree with the flowmasters. As for the stereo system I have the wrangler half doors so I mounted 6x8 3 way Kenwood marine speakers in them, a 8" Rockford Fosgate subwoofer with a small alpine amp mounted in a custom rear storage box, and a pioneer head unit that like Matt's does not have a cd player but has blue tooth, aux port, and a usb port so that you can play your tunes through it however you want. It can be heard very well above the sweets sounds of the flowmasters. I did install sound deadener in the half doors and subwoofer box so they don't rattle.

I get sweet mud tire howl and wind buffeting around the big flat windshield

But a buddy has a sweet overhead sound bar in his side by side....directly overhead too and sounds awesome...I think it was a few hundred $$ but has a Bluetooth receiver...very nice, yes!
