LED tail lights on a cj

Working on getting some led flushmounts in the cj, and I was looking but couldnt find any write ups on someone putting them in a cj. I am needing a 4.5" hole and am worried on the passenger side it will be close because of the gas filler and the top of the fender. going to be close, just wondering if any of you guys had any experience with this. Thanks!

I just finished mine up. It wasnt to hard, i didnt take any progress pics but just make sure when your laying them out your not to high because you will run into some problems. Heres a pic if it helps.

And no matter how many times you check your measurements they always look off.

If yours is a street Jeep, don't forget to have a plan for reverse lights and side markers. Might ask a local inspection shop if they are necessary for inspection.

When I installed LED's, I moved the fuel filler from the rear of the tub to the side of the tub. This allowed me to install LED backup lights, as well.

You can see where I cut the fuel filler hose, sleeved the hoses at the cut, and swiveled the hose from the rear to the side location.

Check to see if you need a license plate light in your state too.

Also for a cj you need stat 262 flashers for both your hazard circuit and blinker circuit, so they don't blink too fast. The system has no resistance w/ led's, it does with the bulb causing the fast flash.
I'd recommend adding led parking lights up front as well. Does anyone know of led bulbs for the markers in tj flares?

I made them, along with the recessed fuel filler bezel, when I installed the lights. One thing led to another....

I used a Volvo tractor light for my reverse light after installing my flushmount LED's. Works great on the trail at night. Probably throws more light than my headlites.

Really? I've done the led taillights on mine without changing the flasher and seen them on two others also on the stock flasher unit. Maybe it's just on the older CJ's?

If you still have your front marker lights then you will be fine. They have enough draw to activate the flasher. Its when you do all LED's you have a problem.

If you run all LED's or mix them with your original lights, just use an electronic flasher. They are not draw sensive and work with all. Plus, better than factory type flasher... Here is what I used on mine... They work fine on emergency and turn signal...
