Inconceivable that you would want to put a cat ON a cj! Outrageous price too!

In the state of Texas a cat is only required on vehicles from 1984 and up to pass inspection but in some counties its required to have one due to emissions regardless of year. But being an inspector does have its advantages, lol. My 89 is catless.

Unless said vehicle was never manufactured with a catalytic converter, such as the 1976 CJ-6 six cylinder.

Didn't the catalytic converters on Jeeps have an inlet for air?

Only if registered as an antique in an emissions county.

Jacob,

What you're saying is completely untrue. If my vehicle was never manufactured with a catalytic converter, NO federal emissions test can force me to put one on, period. Here are examples of '76, '77, '78, & '79 CJ decals, so that you may become educated.

That sticker says it passes emissions standards for those years. The emissions standards these days are much stricter. They still hook up a probe to the exhaust to measure the CO2 and HC output. If it drives on public streets and is not registered as an Antique it must pass todays emissions in those counties.

I think Fred is correct.

This is from the Texas Department of Public Safety:

"The exhaust emission system was installed by manufacturers of motor vehicles beginning with model year 1968. The inspection of the exhaust emission system will apply only to those vehicles that are equipped with such a system. The following exhaust emission systems will be inspected if installed as original equipment by the manufacturer: thermostatic air cleaner, exhaust gas recirculation system, positive crankcase ventilation system, air injection system, evaporative emission system, and/or catalytic converter."

Thank you, Matt.

Thankfully, Tom Green County doesn't have emissions yet, but the day they do I will be prepared with TXDPS Rules & Regulations Chapter 4, pgs 4-16 & 4-17 in hand, for young kids like Jacob, who don't know what they're talking about.

Nothing like admitting you're a criminal on a public forum :/ Guess what they say about power corrupting is true.

Wonder if I just shot a quick email to TXDPS pointing them to this thread.

Is this an original catalytic converter for a Jeep? Didn't the catalytic converters on Jeeps have an inlet for air?
