These threads pop up often here, so I thought maybe there would be some value in confining them to one thread.
I'll start it off with this $26,000 gem with a rusty valve cover, exposed wiring, unpainted aluminum tub, and the thing I hate the most; "...WAY TOO MUCH TO LIST!!!"
WTF!!!??? 70 thousand?!?!?! do you know what kind of 2012 jeep unlimited jacked sky high i could get for 70,000???? do you know what kind of restoration project i could do on my CJ5 with 70,000?? wow that is incredible!!
This auction is for one original Jeep/AMC windshield wiper knob with the white graphic of the washer and wiper on it. It is in good condition as the pics show. I think this design is correct up to '81. It's just a question of......How perfectly correct do you want your restoration to be?
Don't let this one get away!
"Front needs matching gears..." So if it is in 4wd, will the drive train be damaged by the front wheels spinning @ a different rate than the rear wheels?
I agree. It's a free market, and it's interesting to see what does and doesn't sell at a given price.
My point in starting this thread was to bring attention to high priced Jeeps that had obvious flaws like the nylon zip ties holding on the license plate, a tangle of wires hanging down from the dash, incorrect or funny descriptions, and stuff like that.
So, what I think you are saying is this thread may have gone a little off track? I agree a Jeep is worth what every the market will support. I have two '53 M38 in different degrees of assembly, shape, condition, what ever. Both priceless!
Again we have a high-priced CJ with a description that omits important details, and no link to detailed photos.
This 1983 Jeep CJ7 Laredo has been fully restored. It is in immaculate condition, and perfect for any jeep enthusiast, or anyone looking to upgrade to a classic Jeep in mint condition! This Jeep also features a brand new 10 ton winch on the front. This vehicle has been rebuilt with the following: New Paint, Stripe Kit, Fender Flares, Fog Lights, Maxi Light Bar, Rebuilt Engine, New Drive Shaft, Rebuilt Carburetor, Rebuilt Differentials (front and rear), Shakle Reverse Kit, New A/C, New Carpet, New Radio/Speakers/CD Changer, And tons of others.
Saw this one today and just had to add it. It's a 95 tj wragler... Lol. With a Dana 40 front axle. And don't call him if you have the vaguest idea about jeeps.
A Dana 40 front axle? That kicks A55! I guess it's a front axle that's twice as strong as an AMC 20 rear axle. I want one! Maybe just a bit weaker than a Dana 44, but with some Mosure axles and locked it would be more than enough to handle 33" tires.
Wow. What a butchered piece of work that is. This line stood out:
"amc 20 with mosure one piece hardened shafts and locked"
"mosure"?
Also, one has to suspect that the "locked" may mean "welded together".
You know, the owner is probably proud that he's got this pieced together Frankenstein CJ, but I wouldn't touch it or pay a dime for it. I suspect that so many corners were cut and it has so many lurking problems that it'd only be a continual waste of time to work on.
I wonder what that orange ratchet strap is holding together?
Also, this is yet another auction where the owner can't take the time to roll the thing out of the garage and wash it before taking a photo. Maybe it's just me, but if you don't have pride enough in your Jeep (or whatever you're selling), to clean it up before thing to sell it, then I don't have much faith it's worth what you're asking for it. [/soapbox]
He forgot to mention the special "self immolation" mod. any pinto owner would love the prospect of sitting within 2 feet of a 5 gallon can of fuel. Wonder if the lighter works?
Maybe it's the words "CJ" and "Great investment" so close to each other. I love that he mentions over $25000 has been spent on it over the years, but he's got a BIN price of $14000. I tend to think of investments as gaining value, but I guess not all "great" ones do.
"..it is a Classic and Collectors item, so any bank deems it worth even more than $14000OBO. Last I checked, my Bank said its worth over $17000. Its an investment! It has increased over $3000 in 2 years"
So let me see if I understand this: Any bank says it's worth 14K, but his bank said it's worth $17K, so that means the value has increased by over $3K.
$5000 for a totaled CJ7 with a crappy Grooms (none of the shops I worked at would touch a Grooms reman engine, they're junk) engine. What a deal! I'm tempted to shoot him an e-mail for how much he wants for those cool slot M/T mags, but that might be why he thinks his junk is worth $5000. Might think the wheels are worth $4500 and the rest of the heap is worth $500 like I do.
Saw this one on craigslist and it made me think of "TOP GEAR" the british version where the host is driving a car like this and he tips it over on every corner and asks bystanders to tip him back over.
What the heck is going on with the stuffed animals?
