Here's a mildly funny one in Bellville, Texas:
"factory rebuilt 6 cyl. 258 4.2l engine" - which factory?

"tub has been sprayed inside and out with Extreme Liner bed liner" - to cover all of the rust.

"New Kenworth CD player" - removed from a tractor trailer rig?

"Comes with jack and tow bar" - because you may have to tow her home.
US $12,500.00

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...SS%3AUS%3A1123

I suspect the seller isn't a huge Jeep enthusiast or we'd have gotten some information about the transmission and axles. Of course that doesn't make it a bad deal. What makes it a bad deal is the abundance of bedliner combined with the high price.

I watch a fair number of CJ auctions on Ebay because it helps me stay in touch with CJ prices in this area. One trend I see is that decent looking Jeeps come up for auction, but the reserve price is often never met, even when there have been 20 or 30 bids.

This 1957 CJ is a good example of that.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/170757895711...84.m1438.l2649

The description claims (in all caps), "RESTORED LIKE NEW", but then goes on to say, "HAVE SOME ADDITIONAL NEW PARTS TO BE ADDED SUCH AS REAR VIEW MIRROR, BRAKE PEDAL AND LINKAGE HOOD LATCHES, WINDSHIELD LATCHES"

It also says, "PAINTED PROFESSIONALLY WITH JEEPS NEWEST COLOR DESIGN" which I'm not sure about the meaning of. If it's "like new", wouldn't you want to use a color that would have been sprayed by the factory in 1957?

The pictures say a lot. I love the rusty engine. I suppose it probably does run OK, but that's a long, long way from "like new". The biggest symbol, in my opinion, is the fact that they didn't remove the serial number plate before repainting. They just masked it off.

I hate to tear down peoples' Jeep restores, but don't claim that your restored Jeep is 'like new" when it's not.

It's not a bad Jeep at all. It's a survivor, that's for sure. I'd love to go driving around town it in on a fair Spring weekend.

This auction had 32 bids which is great for a CJ. The price went up to US $4,050.00. I do not know what the reserve price is, but the it's free market and the $4,050.00 price says a lot about what it's worth.

what really gets me is in auctions like that they TYPE IN ALL CAPS TO MAKE IT SEEM LIKE THEY HAVE THE GREATEST THING EVER, WHEN ALL THEY HAVE IS A WAY OVERPRICED HEAPING PILE OF CRAP

I'm making a very honest effort to make some kind of sense out of this...uh..."vehicle".
I built tree forts as an eight year old that had better lines.

I thought this was noteworthy. $35,000 for a CJ7!!!!. $50,000 invested!!!! You would think it was a Collins Bros jeep from the $35,000 invoice in one of the photos. In a way I feel bad for these people that get taken for a ride. If I remember correctly, Keith was invested in his 100% original restoration about $18,000. And his CJ is the poster child for the jeep we all dream of owning, or building for that matter. Yes, I know some of you guys are into your rock crawlers and modified jeeps, but everyone on here wishes they could have a factory fresh CJ in their garage.

BTW, Did you know you can fit a straight 8 in a CJ lol. Must be one of those AMC/duesenburg engines.

Notice how the seller also refers to the "360 HP" engine:

"The engine is a V8 AMC 360 HP straight Eight with a lot of power"

So is it 360 cubic inches, or 360 horsepower?

This is yet another example of a perfectly good restored CJ that the selller thinks they can get their money out of.

I guess I can overlook the abundant, overuse of chrome because that's personal choice. I can overlook the confusion about 360 CI vs. 360 HP and the misunderstanding about straight versus V engines. Not Jeep owner is a gearhead or has a basic understanding of engines. But it's hard to keep a straight face at the price tag.

I just have to wonder, why?

With the effort and cost that went into this abomination he could have built two Jeeps, a 'Vette and a chopped Merc. And I guarantee two Jeeps, a 'Vette or a chopped Merc would get more enjoyment, not to mention more poon.

You would think that if he really spent that much money on the restoration, he would have custom stitched seats rather than cheap "pep boys" seat covers. I'd say he's about $15,000 or more heavy in his asking price
