I`ll get some picture of the dash with the plaque and the folder.
I don't think it would be on a 1985. That wasn't the last year.

Mine is serial num 144616
Mine has been repainted when I got it so I don't know if it originally had the "Last of a great breed" emblem or not. It has the 44 rear end. Does anyone know what serial number they started putting them on?

I keep getting the feeling that these plaques were sent to the dealers by AMC Jeep PR department sometime in 1986.

Application would have been by the dealers service department and or sales person, just like some or the Renegade packages that were installed by dealers.

This could explain why and how a left over model year (1985) ended up with a plaque. I'd bet there were plenty of these plaques that never even made it to the dashes of the intended CJ's and ended up in the trash.

Does anybody know if they put them in an '83 CJ5 (last year)? Plaque looks like a 5 to me.

I believe you are correct Fatman. I knew someone who worked as a mechanic for a Jeep dealer in Fairfax, VA. A friend in common, who had a 85' CJ7 was given one of these plaques by the mechanic who told him they were given to the dealer to place on the 86' CJ's. It is also possible they could've been placed in different locations on the dash, as my friends was placed above the gauges.

I think they'd be better served as a magnet on my garage fridge then on my '86. I love all my jeeps whether they have one or not.

1977 - CJ7.......1979 CJ7.......1981 - CJ8.......1986 CJ7 Cant get enough!

The 86 I just bought several months back has the Dana 44 rear and completely stock.. The serial number on it is 62897..... Not for sure if that falls in the last bunch or not....

Looking at that number, I wonder where the serial number started and stopped.. Apparently not at 00001 for CJ7's.... Maybe both the CJ5 and CJ7 were issued numbers together......

My 86 has the 44 dana, When Jeep ran out of amc 20 rears they used the 44 to finish the year, so the last ones would be the ones with 44s
