Know what plugs into this?

Changed my parking brake today and say this plug hanging right behind it. Anybody know what should be plugged into it? I know it's a shot in the dark with the info provided. No apparent issues. I'd just like to know! Thanks!

I believe that is for the interior lights. All the harnesses were the same in a year so if the lights were ordered they were just mounted and plugged in.

Yep, my schematic shows orange and black for the dome light.

Good call, only.

Love this site. Thanks everybody. My clock is plugged into something that looks EXACTLY like that. It's got to be the dome light.

Ahh I was so close with the under dash lights. They are in the same circuit at least.

That is the mysterious extra plug that Jeep put in to drive future jeepers crazy. They are a couple more around depending on the year and model.

Hey guys,

This thread motivated me to finally try to hook up my hardtop dome light.

I have the same empty plug near the fuse box that the OP was inquiring about, but I can't figure out where it plugs into. I was assuming it simply plugged into the headlight switch, but I don't see any way to do that.

Can my fellow CJers help an electrical retard out?

Matt

That orange and black wire plug into another pigtail plug in the same wire loom that goes back to the taillights. It should be right next to or around the parking brake pedal assembly and not the headlight switch. It is in fact for the dome light on the Hardtop equipped Jeeps.

wiring diagram from FSM.. I would imagine it would hook up to your light switch.. or a separate dome lite switch.. which is basically a door switch.. (pin in the door that open's the circuit when door is closed, or puts a ground on the circuit when you open the door.. so either way, if no doors, put a toggle in somewhere that just switches ground to your courtesy/dome lights.. or a push button on/off.. use a lit one, and you'll know its on..
