Keeping it Simple

I am in the process of building a 258 Jeep motor. My question is this: what is the bare minimum for wires and vacum lines? I want the engine clean, simple yet effective. I will be running the Gm HEI distributor and my Carb is the MC 2150. Stock intake and exhaust heads.

If anyone had this information or had pictures of their engine that shows the bare essentails that would be great. By the way mo worry bout emissions etc.

Also what is the wire that comes out of the bottom of the intake manifold? Where does it hook up and is it important?

Do I need the EGR valve setup? or can it be bypassed?

Thanks for your help

Probably a manifold heater, used to help vaporize the fuel until the engine heated up. Better emissions when cold and faster warm up.

Not needed. Used for bringing combustion temps down, again emission related.
Mine is pretty simple. I have the vacuum for the advance and for vapor purge from the charcoal canister, PCV hoses, and the bare minimum for wiring (alt, ignition, temp and pressure senders). I don't have a current picture. The key is taking your time, especially on the wire loom. Don't tape it up until have everything done.

It's just a Jeep, and if you don't wheel it once in a while, it's not even that.

I got a 1 wire distributor (plus the charge wire to batt), 1 wire to the HEI, 1 wire for the york compressor clutch (OBA), and 1 to temp sensor. Oh, and one coming off the block for elect fan grounding switch. 1 vac line for advance.

Other than that, I got manual choke, mechanical oil pressure....

that's all I can think of right now
