Just got a Weber carb...need help please

Hello all! First post here! I just got a Weber carb for my 77 cj5 and the darn thing backfires thru the carb when you try and push the throttle. It used to do this with the old carb too. Any ideas what to check? Thanks!!

im just gonna throw this out there
if im wrong sorry
i had a 1970 bronco once and my timing was way off
it turns out that the timing chain was so loose and it
eventually broke but before it did i was getting backfires through
the carb
you may want to check that out
