Just bought my first CJ!!!

Just bought my first CJ. I love the look and originality of it. We are really excited. I will also post a picture of the inner fenders with a question of if I should leave them or address any of the surface rust and how.

great looking Jeep.

****two things I would check out first!!!!!!!!

check the date code on the tires: most old jeeps may have a great looking set of tires on them, but they are not driven that much, so the tires may be old, per date code. just something to think about when you are barreling down the road on a hot summer day with family riding along.
just be sure on the tire date code. most say over 4-5 years old maybe should be changed out.

brakes: many times the old jeeps take a nice dip through some creek, mud hole, etc: the brake
Mechanism can get filled with mud, be frozen up, back brakes, emergency brakes are the worst for this, just need to check it out.

then you know you and family will be safe

If the tyres are cracked they are dry rot perished and are no longer in good nick. If really old they become hard which makes them less efficient at braking. Change them if cracked or hardened.

But you may not want to rush out and change them just because they were made 5-6 years ago. They can sit in storage for some years and be fine or have been put straight on and used under inflated in hot climates and be junk within 5 years.

I have 17 year old tyres on an XJ Cherokee. The cracks make up for the baldness when it comes to grip. Are they safe? Are you joking?
