That's going to look nice onece you get it all covered. Seems like there's just no end to all the work that goes into getting our shops set up like we want. I like those Swag parts. Seems to be very good quality. Did you buy one of the cylinders yet? I bought one but might not use it, they are kinda slow. I'd really like to get one of the hydraulic pumps and go first class but for now I'll rely on armstrong.
Jim, is there a way to adapt a power unit to the hydraulic ram?... Cheaply?

I know there's a cheaper way than just buying the kit from JDC. I think you could go to a place like http://www.surpluscenter.com/hydraulic.asp or http://www.northerntool.com/ and get what you need to do the job. You could save a few dollars that way and just put it together yourself.

Actually Jim this in itself would make an excellent Fabforum thread if a person had the time to research it out. After all there's allot of these benders in use and I'm sure many folks would love to have a hydraulic set-up and not have to pay over $1000.00 to get it.

Thanks Jim for helping with my shopping. I'll look at those suppliers and see if I can find some hydraulic pump setup to make the bends easier and faster.

Have a good weekend.

I've never seen one of these rams before. What is the 48" high-pressure air hose and air valve and inlet: 1/4" x 18 NPT quik-disconnect used for?

http://www.harborfreight.com/8-ton-l...ack-94562.html

Thanks, everyone.

OK- I sort of guessed that the air attachment was to power the ram... but wasn't sure. Here are 4 powered rams that are pretty cool:

Front Rollbar Setup

While poking around at lunch I found this method for mounting a front windshield hoop to the dash and then tying it into the floor. Looks good and doesn't block the e-brake too badly. I'll probably do a "Jim" version similar to this.

I don't know if I'll do a rollbar frame tie-in though... although I do have a bunch of bushings for it... hummm??

I bought one of the air/hydraulic rams like what you found. They are slow and take allot of air but they do work.

I would tie the roll cage in Jim. Now's the time to since you're in the process of building.

You have a great weekend too!

Jim with a rig that sick and HUGE your gonna want to test its limits once or twice right? Now imagine you and the misses in the WTF-J and you feel it start to go over. Wouldn't it be nice to KNOW your cage is tie'd into the frame and that you and your wife WILL make it through the WTF-J's nap session? Especially since this thing is gonna be such a MONSTER! If you look on the "All about Roll cages" thread you'll see pics where the cages that are not tied into the frame compress WAY more than that are.....Go for PLATINUM man....Gold is just second place and doesnt deserver to be on your jeep. It could really mean the difference between life and death for you and your loved ones.

Those brackets that connect the cage to the floor are nice but just one more thing that can fail IMO A SOLID peice of DOM bent on your new Bender would be a heck of alot sturdier.....But its just my opinion man.

How about this. I 've been following this thread because I am also doing a CJ-8 Aqualu tub project. I'm in the middle of my cage and this cage will be a through the dash style to have more foot/leg room, needed for my wife. This was done with a ProTool bender(converted to air/hyd) and Bendtech software.

Aren't those bends going to fold if you roll it onto the top?

Possibly but I would trust this one piece of tube(1.75 DOM .120 wall) bent like this to the floor, than bolted to the dash. I considered the dash idea but don't think it is strong enough. Cages are always a compromise between function and safety and this design will be fine for my use. I'm sure others will disagree but that's fine too.

You're right, Jim. I'll tie it through and also onto the frame. Thanks.

I'll settle for just finishing!! Yeah, I'm feeling over whelmed right now with work and other stuff... Just lazy thinking I suppose. You are right. I hadn't been thinking about the mass and loading the axles will add to a tumble. There's a boat load more going on down there than just a Dana 35 and 30... Thanks.

I hear ya. I'll do something that will still allow the foot e-brake to remain but jazz it up some. The frame tie-in is back on the production list again.

Thanks for the images and ideas. It looks great. Those tubs sure are nice and shiny, aren't they. How are you planning on finishing the aluminum?

NP435 Finally going back together

Well it is another banner day. I've finally gotten around to cleaning off the work bench and discovering all of the bits and pieces of my NP435 I got from Blaine. I dug out my meager box of goodies from Novak and late this evening began to press bearings and clean rollers and ... well, you know the drill.

Despite having everything cleaned up a couple of months ago (I think...) I had to fire up the blaster for the lower shaft retainer. It was caked with 40 years of road tar and grime. Those are the needles cleaned up and ready to be greased and glued into place. I'll put it all back together except for the lid... I emailed Novak, just today, and asked them to send me the shift fork syncro nylon guide that was short shipped.

After that I'll lift the tub off of the frame and put the entire drive-line between the axles. I'm very happy that I'm finally getting to this stage before I officially get to my summer break. Motor mounts, tranny cross member here we come. I kept my extra tranny/tcase crossmember from my donor F350 and plan to use it at least during mock-up if not for the real thing.
