What is the tubing size used on store bought tube fenders?

Hey everyone. I really need to get my tube die order in for the tube fenders today.

Does anyone know what tube OD is used on the common retail tube fenders??

Thanks

No this aint no small tire rig. It's seriously going to be a brute.

Jim check this place out. www.extremecustomparts.com
They use 1 1/2" dia. on theirs. You might get some ideas here too.

OK, Thank you for the link.

You know I just remembered while perusing http://extremecustomparts.com/ that I had planned on saving money by buying the smaller dies to match my trackbars that also need some bending... the trackbars are 1.25 x .25 wall. Perhaps a little small for tube fender sizing but I'll just go with 1.25 fender tubes I guess.

Sorry for bothering you, Jim.

OK, got off of the phone with JD2 and bought two die sets.

M3B Die Set - 1.9” OD (5.5-180) 1 1/2” Pipe M3P100286
180 degree bend. Wall Thickness – Schedule 40

and

M3B Die Set - 1.125” (4.5-180) 1 1/8” Round Tube M3R100202
180 degree bend. Minimum Wall Thickness - .058”. Maximum Wall Thickness – .120”.

They'll be waiting for me when I come back across the border in a couple of weeks.

One windshield frame and some hinges are going to get added to the list. May as well get them now and bring them across with the dies.

The windshield frame I bought is 20 gauge steel from Rugged Ridge... I hope it is a good one.

I'm anxious to see how the pipe dies work Jim. While some people don't want to build a cage out of anything but DOM there's many things that can be made from pipe. It'll work great for the fender flares and you could even make some grab rails and stuff like that from it.

You'll need to be careful with crossing the border with the Scrambler after it's done, we're gonna start a pool to bribe the border guards into keeping it. It's those 40s, nothing personal.

I'm anxious, too! The fellows at the machine shop said that this stuff, although "pipe" is a very different product. It has no visible seam, super smooth finish and is designated "HSS"- hollow structural steel. The stuff is also at a great price for 22 (or 24- can't remember) feet at $54. Anyhow, I know some are ready to flame this use of the product, but with a .0120 regular wall thickness it will be stronger than my stock YJ roll bar by a good margin.

About crossing the border? I already know two US border officers who are building vehicles! I'll be OK, but watch out! ickle:

Not much action but pics anyhow ;)

I managed to degrease the extension and bead blast it today. I didn't get across the border today to pick up the tranny parts- tomorrow. Here the extension before:

and after. This cleaning to bare metal should help the paint hang on a little longer... at least a week longer.

So, I'm getting closer to motor mounts.

Jim since you clean/de-paint things better than anyone I've ever seen, do you have any ideas on how to clean/de-rust the inside of a frame? I've just ordered the Chassis Saver and a Monsta-liner kit off egag and need some ideas....I was thinking of blasting the spots where there are access holes but IDK about the rest of the inside....Thoughts?? Your ideas are GREATLY appreciated, Thanks-Eric-

There is no single best answer as too many variables exist. Opinions vary from cutting open the frame- yeah right, to pound out all of the scale, to pouring in neutralizers.

One thing that I spent a bit of time on was searching out long-term metal sealer rust stopper. There is a thread here where some of us contributed our findings. I settled on a home-brew version of WaxOyl.

One more:
Why not just make your own "waxoyl"?

Here's the recipe for "home brew":

1 pound paraffin wax (use some toilet sealing rings at about $1 each)

2 liters of turpintine or diesel fuel

1 liter of non detergent oil

put the mixture in YOUR crock pot (not the wife's), make small batches, and simmer unitl wax has melted or until the gentle smell of petrolium products alerts the neighbors.

Brush on or use a sprayer. WEAR GOGGLES

Of course a clean vehicle makes this process much more effective. As does having access to a lift, if you have to crawl under there, expect to get extremely dirty.

Really apply it in every nook, allow to drip, as the turpentine evaporates the mixture will thicken and hold.

This is from:

A good rust remedy for Eric

The whole thread is a good read.
