Here is a mockup in 3/8 plywood of the caliper bracket for the rear axle. I don't have pads yet but it looks as if I'll need to space the bracket inward another 1/8 as several others have needed to do. Too many pics but I love seeing them here!

The bracket bolts up well to the axle.

The caliper slider pins clear the rotor.


The rotor and caliper clear the inside of the rim.

The rim comes back another 3/4 inch inward but I had a lug nut on holding the rotor in place.

So- on to the real pair of brackets now.

Brakes look great. Nice to see you are doing a ford 5.0 with so many guys doing the chevys. What are you planning for the 5.0 in your build. I've thought
about my 5.0 as far as building it up. I really don't want to suffer with MPG's to much most of my driving is on the road. What has to be done to get 300 hp from our engines? I've been quite happy for the most part.

Junkyard (cheap) rear disc brakes are on my wish list after I get the CJ on the road.

Thanks. I got 3 slabs 8 x 12 x 3/8 plate. Two for brackets and one spare or for future projects. They came to $37.00... Not too bad and maybe the ply mock-up will save some steel.

Yep! Skull, ribs- most of them, sternum- totalled!! And we call it "the good-ol' days"!

Hey there. I've seen your posts on other threads. Mustang wrecked, right? I've read that just a cam swap is all you need for that HP, but do you want it running at that higher rpm? I don't think you can have that and passable mpg... I'll keep the 235 HP for a while then look into swapping out my Explorer headers. I'm just going to mod them to get the passenger side dumping downward a bit more for now.

[EDIT]Coiz, mschviuz, Jim1611, and 427ci know more about Ford 302s than I do![/EDIT

I've just edited my 1st post to help new readers see where I've come from and where I'm headed without having to read 10 to 15 pages of me asking (it seems now) some dumb questions! It sort of went from knowing that my next Jeep had to be bigger, stronger, not necessarily more powerful and unique to then figuring out how to do it.

No mustang here. I used a 99 explorer engine with the P-heads. Finding headers is kind of tough. What year is your engine?

This is my jeep I did the swap last winter. The 5.0 is a real nice fit into the jeep.
Glad to see more of these going into jeeps. Do you think the cobra valve covers would fit on my engine?

Oh, ok. I was thinking about another 5.0, sorry. My engine came in a 97 Explorer I think.

That looks awesome. A really nice installation. I don't know about the valve covers. I think Coiz is using Cobra covers.

I have the totalled 93 'stang...sittin in my backyard and JUST WAITIN to give up its heart to my Tj. But im kinda iffy of puttin an 93 engine in a 98 Jeep....
