Jim, I don't see anything wrong with the position of the caliper. In fact, I was looking at a Porsche in my work garage the other day and it had the front brakes at about 2/10 position and the rear brakes at 3/9 (front leading side of rotor), depending on your point of view.

They do look low if you're going to be dropping (with bad luck) over rock ledges or trolling for brush snags. That would be my choice too, to put them up at 10:30 or 11:00. Will the bleed nipple still be vertical enough... probably.
What type of calipers are those jobs anyways? They look kind of $$$. I do like the way they shine, too!

Here's what I'm concerned with. The bottom of the caliper hanges below the axle. Sooner or later it'll get hung on something and likely won't fair too well. I didn't realize how much of it was exposed till I took the last picture.
Got the brake kit from http://www.ssbrakes.com/. It was too much money Jim and if I knew then what I know now I'd have pieced my own parts together and saved at least half of what I paid here. The parts are great quality but the kit is just too generic and I'll end up making half of the brackets myself. I ended up having to drill the correct lug bolt pattern and turn my axle flanges down to fit the rotors. Lots of work and money too. I'll have good brakes when it's done but have too much invested. I don't recommend this route at all.
Nice thing on the caliper is that it's got two nipples to bleed with and also two places to connect the brake lines.

Jim I would definitely either call them and ask for a better bracket, or fab one yourself. That doesn't look too safe like you said.

What if you moved them to the front of the wheel? With the tilt of the axle won't they be up around 2 o'clock?

Hi Andy. I'll just make one. I doubt if they have anything that I could buy that I wouldn't have to modify anyway.

I had them that way earlier Paul and they still put the bottom of the caliper under the axle. So I get to make one! It's all drawn up and ready to cut. Think I'll do one out of wood first.
Where the old one was a bolt on bracket this one will be a weld on. Stronger but I'll have paint to touch up.

Hey Buddy. How DID you manage to climb up into Mike's Jeep?
I am very proud of the tribute your community paid you for years of unselfish contribution to your neighbors. What does it feel like to have your very own street sign? I think that's cool.
BTW- I believe you could pick up 42s... probably even 48s!

Didn't drive it very far. What I did drive it though I was amazed at how well it drove. Steered good too. Then when you put your foot in it there's no hesitation and the power is smooth. Smooth running machine.

It was easy. He offered to let me drive it so I just jumped in and went. By the way I offered Mike free storage at my place for it but he didn't want to crowd me out of any room.
Oh and the sign....They told me the last one was shipped to a place close to White Springs, Fl.

Caliper brackets are cut out. Made them from 3/8" thick material. Drilled and tapped the holes that hold the calipers to them then added a couple of extra holes to hold the material down on the table for machining.
They fit on the axle like they should and the caliper bolts on fine. As long as I have the bolt centerline in the right place they will work with the rotors. I do see some material that needs to be removed at the top of the bracket. They stick out a little past the caliper and that could cause problems hitting the inside of some wheels. I'll sandblast them before they get welded on and then repaint.
