tractor1 you sure have a good memory.

Not sure yet what I'll do but I did draw something up to see how it might look to machine a mount that bolts to the face of the bumper. Not to precise for size yet or location, it's just a rough draft.
I like this idea but make the " shackle " Beefy enough to hold all the pressure.

I am in deep

I'm leaning towards cutting the bumper off and starting over. I like the way the bumpers look with the spindle welded into the bumper, like Besrk's. Also, didn't tell you this part yet, when I made the old one I didn't buy a weld in receiver tube. I made on out of square tubing and it seemed to work fine but since then I was trying to get an insert to slide into the tube and it's too tight. I could take a file and spend a bunch of time making the inside bigger but doubt that happens.

It looks like after the tub comes off I'll start over.

Tomorrow is going to be a work day on the Jeep. I picked up some 2"x3"x 3/16" tubing this afternoon and am going to start on my rock sliders/steps/roll cage tie ins.

Mike motivated me to work on the CJ some tonight. Thanks Mike.

I bolted the fender on and propped the tubing (2" x 3" x 3/16") under the tub about where I plan to have the sliders. They will have the ends cut off and plugged when I figure out where to cut them. Do you guys think 1" space between the tub and the slider is enough?

Also I plan to use 1 3/4" dom to make some kind of extra prtection that sticks out a few inched from the side of the tub, then put something on top of that for a step. Expanded metal is what I used on my truck steps and it's worked out very well.

Hey, I have to live vicariously through the rest of the JF tonight. It is 18* in my garage right now. -4* outside that feels like -14*.

Jim that looks fine, I've seen some that were only 1/2 inch away from the body, the only movement should be the body bushings and they shouldn't flex to much.

Dito on that - 1/2 minimum. Do you have a body lift? That may have implications in the future. Take all of my opinions with a grain of salt though. I've consumed 1/2 a beer!

I like the expanded metal too. It would have to be heavy duty stuff though, and I think I would leave it open to shed mud/dirt. The only downside, IMO, is that it will rust through whatever coating you put on it. So maybe black diamond plate would be better.
