Jeep Restoration, Paint Job really, need recommendations
So, my family owns an 84 cj7 with only 40k original miles on it. Over the years it has a couple rust spots and peeling paint and a small dent in the rear corner. We want to get it painted as part of a restoration. It really does not need much work...... It would be great to find somebody to paint inside out, and possibly the frame. Any recommendations? I am in the Portsmouth NH area.... Would prefer somebody with jeep experiance....
Thanks...

Unless you want to pay through the nose and take it to a Jeep rebuilder, you should disassemble it yourself, buy all new bushings, and hard & soft lines, take the body & possibly the frame (depending upon how you want to have it coated) to a media blaster. Then any competent paint & body person can paint the body for you. For a restoration and living in the NE, I'd probably either have the frame powder coated or hot dip galvanized (leaning more toward the galvanizing since that'll get every nook & cranny inside and out).

Actually the frame is in good shape....that may be more in depth then we want to get, the thing sat in a heated gararge for most of its life... So I guess somebody competent at painting who knows jeeps would be best......Thanks again for the advice....

Well, if you want the frame painted, everything has to come off. Once you pull everything off, do you really want to put 22 year old brake & fuel lines back on it? If you leave the frame out of the equation, then this is a simple body shop job...it doesn't require any Jeep-specific knowledge. Just find a good body shop, pick your paint type & color, and drop the body off. Pulling the body off is usually a slippery slope though. You end up doing lots of 'may as well do it while it's apart' stuff
