I have removed the pressure regulator and still it will start everytime but after 1-2 min it just cuts out. Could it be the alternator? the jeep sat for years could it be something in the fuel tank? weber carb and the electric choke is not plugged in right now

So you are saying that it will not crank again after the initial start? Did you drain your battery by trying to crank it again or was the battery shot after it quit running?

not exactly, it will start every time. but after about 1-2 min it just quits, wait about 30 sec. and it restarts. the battery is good 12 volts when i put the multi meter on it. yesterday i did drain the battery but charged it over night.

I had a somewhat similar problem and it turned out to be the filter in the fuel tank at the pickup or something within the hard lines. Still not sure which. You can test to find out where it is by disconnecting for the inlet side of the pump and plumbing that into a jug of gas. Make sure you have enough space in your tank for the return to be pumping in there. If it runs off that indefinitely, then you have an issue farther back in the system. If it doesn't then the issue is past that point. At least it will get you closer.

if i disconnect the line after the fuel filter and crank it. gas comes out of the filter. does this mean It could be the carb?

It does not sound like your alternator. It sounds like a possible fuel vent problem or your fuel filter may not be in the correct position. Make sure your filter is sitting as shown in this diagram.

Is it a really good stream of fuel coming out? It should be kind of spurty but still fill up a water bottle if you crank on it for 20 seconds. Not all at once obviously. that is what I was told. Sometimes it just takes a little bit of suction for whatever is jamming it up to get sucked up too. Have you rebuilt the carb.

How old is the fuel? Been sitting for years = varnish in the system.

new fuel pump, new fuel, new carb (weber), new fuel filter. it does spurt out when cranking. could something be clogging up.... in the carb? I cleaned out the screen on the carb inlet and it was quiet dirty with rusty looking stuff.

Do you have this style fuel filter? If so, make sure that you have it connected properly.

Your electric choke is not hooked up? Is it closed? After warm up the choke being closed would kill it.

Very well is an issue with the fuel/carb but don't overlook the ign coil or module heating up and dropping spark. After 30 secs it cools down and works until it heats up again.
It happened to mine. Put a meter on the coil and watch the readings until it cuts out. If the voltage drops....
