I am running stock yj springs on mine and did a soa at the same time. Very good road habits and awesome flex offroad. I still need to get the right shocks for mine but here is a picture of where it is right now.

Hang onto it. Once you achieve some decent flex, you're going to need it.

SUA-Spring under axle. This is the stock location.

SOA=Spring over axle. It's placing the springs ontop of the axles.

Basically, most of the mods that make your rig more trail friendly make it less road mannered. Soft, flexy suspension off road = lots of lean on curves & corners and avoidance maneuvers on road.

It's often touted as a cheap way to get 5+ inches of lift, but unless you know what you're doing and can fabricate & weld, it ain't cheap. No, it doesn't help with flex in and of itself. Crap springs are crap spring regardless of which way the axles are mounted. You still must use a decent spring, preferably one built for an SOA application so that it will survive the negative arching to often comes during compression. General rule is to use a fairly flat spring. There's plenty of info on this topic all over this forum and all over the web, just spend a a little time searching & reading.

It'll handle and brake well if you make it handle and brake well. I don;t know where folks get this notion that they have to accept 70's/80's era performance from their rigs.

This is approx. how the same Jeep I posted before sits now on 35's (I've since put YJ springs on the front and swapped out the rears with RE 4.5 XD's & Currie shackles in place of the Superlift 2.5's & Daystar 1 3/4" lift shackles). With upgraded braking & steering systems it rides, flexes, handles and brakes just fine. I wouldn't whip it around a corner like a sports car (it *is* a lifted rig with a high COG), but I can confidently drive it with my pinky and stop on a dime.
