Jakery's CJ-5 build

Im starting this build thread on my 67 CJ-5 Because i will be getting the jeep in about a month and just thinking about it got excited so here's a lil bio on me and the jeep and how i got into it:

it all started when i was about 4 (keep in mind im 17) my dad had a little i mean LITTLE Suzuki side kick and my grandparents live in the 4X4 beach section of OBX North Carolina so we'ed always take out little zuke up and down the beaches and i remember my mother always drooling googly eyed over the "real" jeeps (she always wanted one and the zuke is what we could afford) and since my dads family has always ben down there they always drove this jeep or that jeep because the lasted the longest in that corrosive environment. so that is what jeeps have to do with my family how i got mine is a lil different. the story of how i got mine is very sad i wish not to go into detail but lets leave it at my great uncle left me the house the JEEP and everything elseand since right before that happen my mom bought a YJ out of impulse since "she just happen to have the tax money with her" and got swindled being told it was a CJ-7 (it even said wrangler on the side...) so thast what started my interest in the the JEEP specific 4X4 so then a few months later BOOM we get a call saying my uncle left the house to me later that summer we go down to the beach and clean up and pull the jeep under the house and there its ben parked until another month below are some pictures that were taken about a year ago

the house that it sits under

Ok ben thinking of what i want to do with it...

Hopefully bring the 225 back to life but if that fails I'm going to do a 4.3 tbi swap
rebuild t86 trans with t 90 guts
rust removal (its ben sitting at the beach for about 6 years i hear it was in nice shape before that)
SOA lift
maybe a body lift (1 inch at max)
run the existing cage to the windshield and turn down to floor and tie the whole thing into the frame
relocate the fuel tank (Fuel cell under the body in the back)
bucket racing seats
paint and body work (rust removal and cleaning)

If you do the SOA lift make sure you put Dana 44 high knuckles on it. Don't do what the guy did that owned mine before me. He bent the steering rod so it went under the shocks. And if you plan on putting bigger tires on it install a ladder bar on the axel. Just telling you what I've been told so you don't run into the same problems. This is my first jeep too

And I wouldn't do the body lift. I mean it's your jeep so if you want to then more power to ya but when you do the SOA lift gives it about 4in of lift and that's plenty of lift. I can fit 35s fine on mine and all it's got is the SOA lift. Good luck with the build

I got mine from Quadratec seem to be fine. If they ever have a major issue I'll go fiberglass or maybe tube fenders. People say the quality isn't as good on the new ones but you have to do something if they ate beyond fixable.

White Rhino fab has tube fenders for $165 shipped, pretty good deal IMO. If you're looking at fiberglass fenders, I've got a set of early cj5 fenders, with hood as well. pm me if your interested, Idk how much shipping would be but I could cut you a deal. I just want them out of my garage.
