J10 D44 to CJ7 Swap Q's

I walked across a J10 at the local picknpull today and I am considering using at least the front in a swap on my cj7. I've checked a lot of forums and i've gotten a lot of conflicting information. My main question is the width. I've heard all J10's are WT, then I've heard they are wider that WT. Does anybody know the actual measurement? Also, its quadratrac. Can I just change out the hubs to manual and its good to go? Or is there more to it than that. I know I'll probably be outboarding my springs, that's not really a concern. I just need some solid info so I can get this axle before its stripped, or walk away. So the 2 questions are:

Whats the width of a 1977 J10 D44 front axle?
Can you/is it worth it to convert a quadratrac axle?

There is nothing different on the front axles used with Quadratrac vs. other transfer cases other than having drive flanges vs. lockout hubs. Remove the flanges and install lockouts. Done.

J10s are widetrack width, the same as a Cherokee Chief. The wider J-truck axles are those that are eight lug (J10 is six lug) and the difference in width is outside of the knuckle and is only 1" per side. IIRC the widetrack FSJ front 44 is 65.5" WMS to WMS.

Rear axles are different. Jump on any of the large jeep online stores and they list different parts for a rear quadratrac diff than the others.

You're right rears are different. I took the OP to be asking about front 44s and wasn't specific with my explanation (actually I kinda was since J-truck rear axles don't have drive flanges or lockouts). I'll edit my post.

right on. anybody know the gearing in a 77 j10 d44 automatic w/ quadratrac? just curious, i found a 14 bolt rear on craigslist that might match up very nicely for 100 bucks. I am assuming it's not worth trying to use the rear out of the j10 since its offset passenger side? (I am currently centered)

Most likely 3.55s and the 14 bolt is likely to have 4.10s.

My 78 chief axle came with 3:73's

83 CJ7, 350 TBI, TH350, Dana 300 twin stick, Dana 44 E-locker, Ford 8.8, Detroit, 4:10 gears, 35x13.5x15s
