Illinois Jeep Owners (bumper height ???)
Not sure if this belongs in this section..but I'll give it a go.
My CJ sits about 10 inches over stock (total lift) with about 12 inches between the wheel wells and the top of the 35's it sits on...
Bumper height is 25 almost 26 inches...according to what I've found...this is illegal due to the light weight of the vehicle... (is this true?)
Those of you riding high...do you find that you have troubles with the heat?
What is the punishment if you're stopped..(can they impound...or will it likely be a citation?)
My tires also stick out of the flares about 4 inches...what is the legality of tires and fender? (impoundable?/ has anyone had problems?
I feel that driving in the winter with a bikini and no doors draws more attention to things than it should...anyone? Coppers?

625 5/12-608(a). Says max bumper height is 22 inches for 1st division vehicles. Most jeeps are covered with IVC violations. I dont write unless they are doing somthing dumb. But I do work with people who might make your day suck. Your looking at 75 bucks each. Its your choice if you think its worth the risk. Be safe, Justin

I figured...thanks for the info.
Payin' out sux..but there is no real chance of impound right?! That's my main concern.
Can I tac weld a lowered (temporary/removable) bumper that hangs at that height (22) without getting written?
Thanks Again.

PA is the same way regarding bumper heights and tires sticking out past the body line.
Technically you cannot modify the suspension AT ALL (lifted or lowered) or run larger tires than what is called for on the door jamb sticker. And you will not pass a vehicle safety inspection with anything over 33" tires period.
With that being said, most guys around here (with exceptions) will not write you up unless you are a jerk. I've been told that you can get away with bumper height restrictions if you have a sub-bumper that is of OEM strength that hangs below the main bumper.
Tires sticking out past the body lines are a real easy way to get pulled over here. And after speaking to several law enforcement officials, even if they are covered by aftermarket flairs they can STILL write you up. You are not allowed to have anything wider than what came on from the factory.
They will not impound your vehicle, but they won't let you drive it away either. I'm not talking from experience, just from talking to several local cops (including state police).

I wouldnt worry about 4 inches. Just keep in mind you could be stopped. As for the impound. I would check your local city ord. In the county I work for we will not impound for somthing petty like that. I know Rockford can and will impound your vehicle for loud music becuase of their city ord. Just make sure your city doesnt have something like that. But again I doubt someone would break
out the yard stick just to mess with you over 4 inches

The consensus seems to be that 'MOST' won't be D!(ks...as long as you're not being an idiot (which CJ guys don't have a problem with!) I'll press my luck..I just feel like a magnet driving around in 12 degree weather with dual glass packs...35's...no doors or top...smiling.

Why is it that every wrangler guy I own is constantly doing crazy stupid things to show off and try to make their jeeps look cool but all the cj guys value their image/jeep?

Yeah, the country of Texas is a whole other world. I miss living there.
Lifted pickup trucks with loaded guns hanging in the back window, nice people that would actually talk to a stranger and Texas sized glasses of iced tea.
Life is good.
