Idle problems

I have a 1973 CJ5 with a 304 V8 , 2 bbl motorcraft carb, and a 727 toqueflight trans. In park at high idle it stays running but when i put in in drive it will idle for a few seconds then starts idleing rough then wants to die. Carb is rebuilt, new wires and spark plugs. Any input would be appriciated. Is it possible that it could be the PCV valve? Im pretty sure i dont have any vacuum leaks.

Need to ask......how do you know you do not have any vacuum leaks.

Have you performed any recent maintenance on the engine?

I only have two vacuum lines, from carb to the distributer and from PCV to carb. Both dont leak
