Identify this broken part from MC 2100

Okay, so I'm rebuilding my carb. it's been leaking gas around the base, so I figured I'd just redo the whole thing.

In the process, I found this part broken:

This piece comes between the carb and the block. What is it? It's not in my kit and I didn't find it in my manual. Of course, i could dig around and find out what it is or I can ask of the best collected jeep wisdom on the net.

thanks!

After some looking around, it looks like an adapter of some kind. It's hard plastic.

I guess the big questions is: do i actually need it?

On the BBD is also directs the vacuum to the carb's ports.

Those legs are just through holes for the bolts from the look of it. That would mean it is held in place by compression. I would just use it I think. I might even put some JB Weld or gasket maker or something like that on the crack just before I bolted it back down.

It's an adapter plate for your carb and yes, you do need it with your 2 barrel MC2100.

I'm confused by the numer of gaskets you have there that appear to be carb to intake gaskets. I just use one thick "heat isolator" gasket between the carb and the adapter that is attached to the intake. You can get it at autozone, etc. It is a thick cork-like gasket to reduce heat transfer to the carb. The kit probably came with a thin gasket that is all but useless.

Ah... just saw you have a 304... my reference to the adapter is for the 258.

It's called an insulator and yes you need it. Any autopart store should have it cheap and in stock.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I have a 304.

I have the thick cork-like heat isolator (that came with the kit), but do I need the plastic adapter? Both the adapter and isolator were on there. Do I really need both? There were a bunch of gaskets that were on there that aren't in the kit. I don't know if the PO did something weird or not.

I just wanted to work on that popping, leaking, flooding, and stalling.

Thanks for the advice so far...

Mine was broken too and since it was only a couple of bucks I replaced it.

Okay, so it is just an adapter and the only purpose it really serves on my engine is to fill in the length for the intake studs.

Got the carb back on and she started up fine. idled okay. Still have to take her for a ride and adjust, but overall, much better.

Now, on to the alternator and voltage regulator...

Thanks for the input!
