I love it when a plan comes together

I don't know about everyone else, but I had a mighty fine weekend. After 7 months, my CJ is back on the road . I was finally able to get my new 360 fired up. It was a great feeling, especially since I had never been this intimate with an engine. She runs great! I think I'll have plenty of power .

Now I need to put 500 miles on, then I can put my headers on & get some exhaust made up. I'm going to finish up the wiring today, then I'll post up a pic of the finished motor.

A few pics of the build-up

Dang... That's one niiice lookin' motor. I'm doing pretty much the same project to my CJ7, 'cept I'm sticking with the 258. You mentioned that you wanted to get 500 miles on before you put your headers on... is that necessary or are you just doing it?

Nice

Nice work willie, I have that very same intake manifold on my 304.
Is your Jeep a 5 or a 7 ? My 5 was oroginally the same colour too.
But now its olive drab.

Interesting Breather setup.

Is that something you developed or bought ?

Later,

Slickwillie, I had one of those air cleaners on my rig and it ruined the motor! It seems that they are not made for any type of dusty conditions. I found this out the hard way after I called the tech line. They are made for street use only.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the replies. About the hedders, since they are coated, Hedman will void the warranty if they are used to break in a motor.
I got the breather at Carquest, it was the closest thing to what I needed for the oil fill tube.
I kind of had that feeling about the air cleaner. I won't be doing any wheeling for a while, but when I do, I'll be sure to change it out for something else.
I put a few miles on her today, & I'm REALLY liking the power . I'll have to start thinking about tranny upgrades.

Here's a before shot:

Hey, when I bought it, the battery was just sitting up there, so I figure this has to be better for now, until I can fab something up.

Edit: That bungee in the before pic is one I put there.

Just a little update. The motor runs great. I got her up to 60 today for a little, & cruised for a ways at 55, & she ran like a champ . The MSD Blaster coil that I have is leaking oil pretty bad, so I'll be calling Quadratec tomorrow first thing. Good thing I still have the old coil. Also, the fittings from the brake lines to the master cylinder are leaking, so I think I'll need a couple of new lines. Other than that, all is well

And just 'cuz I can, here's another pic
