I have a question regrading a 1960 cj5

I have a 1960 CJ5 and I trying to find out what the stock rear gears that where in the dana 44? I have searched the all over but can not find the spec. dealing with the driveline. Thank you for taking the time to read this thread and i hope some one can help me out here.

Stock ratio was 3.73 and 4.27's were optional. I think i found it, is this correct.

Those ratios (3.73 and 4.27) would be correct for '72-75 CJs, but in '60 you could find gears as low as 5.38s.

Drop the cover and do a tooth count. After fifty years, you never really know what is in there. It also gives you a chance to see what the carrier and r&p look like.

5.38s, top speed 60 mph?

1985 CJ7 - total customization underway, Sublime green and Plum crazy purple, Ford 9", 258 w/ Holley 475
1985,93 CJ7,YJ - L98 TPI Vette motor, Atlas twin stick, Dana 60s front and rear, Arbs, 39.5 Swampers

I have a 61 with the Dana 44 and it has 5.38. I agree with jeepdaddy though, from what I know 20 different farmers owned mine before I did and the farmers I know could pull gears out of a lawnmower and make it work. Drop the cover do the count. If you dont know what it is that probably means it needs the fluid changed anyway.

My 49 and 65 both had 5.38s. I don't think they came any other way.

4.88s were available in the 50s and 60s CJs.
