Saw a news report the other day where they said it was a large part of why PC sale have fallen so much.
I thought everyone but microsoft hated Win8.
Those programmers live in a different world than the average person who uses a computer.

John,

Do you have an Apple Store nearby?

Sorry for the worthless post, I couldn't resist.

open the command prompt.
Type: "regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\actxprxy.dll" without the quotation marks.

Among other symptoms this script may fix:

open in new tab/window not working
Find on this page "empty"
tabs on Favorites pane missing
about screen and other dialogs "empty"
IE8 closes immediately (not if caused by an add-on!)
can't print (interface not registered)
I thought those were "Features" on the new IE

Yes. Yes they are. Much like some of "the features" on a CJ!

I say again. If you download classic shell your windows 8 will look like your old desktops. No more application window pop ups. Make sure you have the latest updates for your O.S. For some reasons they want you to use Windows Explorer a Microsoft browser. Google or Firefox I rather run. Less advertising. ..Good luck.

new PC

we got our new PC and we went with 8 cause we thought they would have fixed all the things we hated about 7, nope, its way worse, they should have stayed with XP and just fixed the weak spots, were doomed ........
