I broke my Bellcrank today!!

My 70 Jeep Kaiser with a 4 cyl F 134 is disabled at the moment

I wasnt even moving at the time and tried to crank the wheel to get my front right tire up on a small log for some traction and "snap"......no steering! I did order a new bellcrank for $50 but I was looking at the forum and people are saying to get rid of that setup and get a saginaw steering box. Would that be my best course of action or is there somthing that is a better fit (less modifications needed) to beef that up?

Thanks for any help

I put the Saginaw box on a '66 I used to have. It was actually pretty easy and didn't cost too much. You can get the box cheap to free from someone who went to power steering. Advance Adapter had all of the steel pre-cut to convert it; that was the only real cost.

The Ross setup is ok for stock applications if it is in good shape, however, the Saganaw conversion will make a huge difference, especially with oversized tires. A manual conversion is fairly simple, with some welding and fab work required. Adapting a PS pump to the stock four can be a tricky job. Might try earlycj5.com for some good writeups on this.

Thanks for the replys. I think I'm just going to replace the bellcrank for now and keep an eye out for a cheap/free saginaw box. I just wont be able to do much offroading until then....what a bummer!
