I-6 to V-8 FlyWheel Swap
I am swaping out an Inline 6 cyl for an AMC 360 V8 and the flywheel from the 6 fits right on and bolts up to the 360. I am just checking if there is any reason why I can not use the flywheel for this application. Any help will be appreciated.

The I6 is internally balanced so the flywheel had neutral balance. The V8 is externally balanced (using the flywheel and harmonic balancer) and there is a displacement specific flywheel for every engine (304, 360, 401, etc). You must use the correct flywheel or have your maching shop balance the I6 flywheel to the 360 specs (if they can).
thanks for the answer, maybe you could help me with the next part, there are two different clutch sizes does it matter what wich one I use with it, I have the choice of either a 10 1/2" or 11".

Also, beware Autozone's inexpensive flywheel line. They show the same part number for both 304s and 360s on one of their brands of flywheels. Nobody has documented which application that product is really weighted for, so steer clear of it.

My 360 is internally balanced so I used the I6 258 flywheel rather than having one done at a machine shop for me. Hays make some pretty good billet flywheels for all AMC motors balanced to either neutral (internal) or Detroit (external) specifications.
