I am building a Hybrid Jeep.CJ/YJ

The motor is a brand new 1988 wrangler- 258cu

I put the flywheel from my 1983 CJ 7 - also was a 258Cu motor
T5 trans,dana 300 transfer casenow installed

Is the flywheel from the 83 CJ OK to be used on the 88YJ motor ?

Thanks AC

Thats what I am hoping on- a 258 is a 258 lol -

The flywheel, clutch, starter & trans are from the CJ- they should all match-

im just wondering if the flywheel will interfere w/ motor balance ? I just read tho that 258's are internally balanced so the flywheel wont make a difference- not sure what to think ?

Now I am also concerned w/ the harmonic balance as well if it is gona effect over all balance...

Thoughts? Thanks for reply

AMC V8 motors are externally balanced, that is why each flywheel and harmonic balancer are displacement specific.
Fixed if for you.

The inline sixes are all internally balanced. You can take a flywheel from any 258 and install it on any other 258 or even any 232 or 4.0, provided the starter used is compatible. It won't hurt a thing.

Even if the sixes were externally balanced both engines are 258s, which would have the same balance.
