I finally got that blessed skid plate drilled and mounted this morning. At one point it seemed impossible to mount to the NV3550, but it all worked out with a few new holes.

I went plundering through my parts pile and found the gas tank and skid plate. I hope I can get the tank out of the skid plate assembly so I can clean it all up and get the skid plate ready for paint.

I thought this picture might help someone who may be planning to use a NV3550 transmission. Here is how I drilled the skid plate and made the torque arm and the mount work out. I used the front row of holes, offset one hole 1.5" to the left of the two existing bushing holes, then drilled a new torque arm bushing bolt mounting hole. I had to cut and grind an angle on the torque arm bushing spacer, but it all worked out. I think it will work but took some time. I also had to drill the edges of the skid plate so I could use the existing frame mounting holes.

I thought this was a cool picture. Just wanted to share it.

I spent about 2 hours surfing the web for this exact comment and picture. Thanks! If you have any additional pictures, that'd be great. Can you identify the black rectangular piece you have bolted between the trans and the arm?

It also seems like you are due for an update.

Thanks!

How did you handle the NV to D300? It seems you can redrill the NV to mate up at the right angle or do the input shaft/clocking ring set up. Any comments either way?

thanks,

PS- I answered my own question above - the 4 holes to two stud plate is available from Advanced Adapters.

I have been making some progress, sorry for not posting any photos lately. I have the fuel and brake lines completed. Just got the body back from the paint shop. I have the body on and bolted down. Getting ready to start the wiring. A little slow, but still kicking here

Body back from paint and no pics? If I was a mod, I'd ban you.

Sorry for the long period of time with no updates. A lot of **** has happened since the last major work was done on the jeep. I am finally back for the final stretch of finishing this thing up.

Even the shop floor got a new paint job and the walls too.

The good news, everything has been purchased.

My original goal was to build a new 1985 CJ7 Laredo. If it isn't repainted and looking new, or purchased new, the part can't go back on the jeep. Period. I have been able to hold true to this except for a few crazy parts that just can't be found.

Anyway, here we go with the pics:

This is a one inch A36 steel cross member spacer I fabricated to correct the angle on the carburetor.

Here are few thoughts running through my head about the project:

1. The cluster wiring is complete, on to the engine side and installing the headlights, taillights, and turn signals today.

2. windshield frame is on my workbench, it got new internals for the windshield wipers and a new motor

3. the windshield is ready to go on now, just need a helper

4. my carpet kit that came in from Niffty was wrong. I opened the box and it was for a f$cking Isuzu Rodeo. Why the hell did they send that. And it was ordered 18 months ago from 4wd.com

5. The painless harness is great as long as the beer doesn't run out

6. you have to be careful, careful with shiny paint

7. the new gauges look nice

8. once i finish the engine side wiring, I can stick the radiator in, get the ignition wired up and crank this bad boy...can't wait

Hey Hutch... looks great!! Don't know how much it matters, but I think you have the sway bar backwards.
