It's easy to install, runs great, and it'll keep the smog monsters away.

I installed the MOPAR fuel injection a few years back and works like a champ...no more carb issues and passes CA smog no problem...I would recommend it...

Your two CA options are Mopar and Howell. I installed Howell and I love it. The CJ can be parked for two weeks (I know it's a long time) and it starts right up. It idles great and runs better. I don't regret anything about the product. It passed smog easely after a couple minor hose issues.

I have the Howell TBI kit on my 360 AMC and it is great! I've had it about 10 years now with no problems. Starts right up, easy install and they are very supportive with customer service. We don't have the CARB issues here, or even the visual inspection rules, but it just makes drivability that much better, especially off camber.

I've been running the howell for 4 or 5 years now on my stock 258 motor and I love it... starts easily, idles great, no issues... it passes east coast emissions with flying colors, better than some new vehicles according to the half-wit at the testing facility...

I am installing the Howell kit as we speak. Very easy install and their customer service is phenomenal. Well worth the price of the kit. Good luck!

I bought mine directly from Howell. There prices were comparable to everyone else and I have more piece of mind buying it directly from them versus another retailer.

I'm right in the heart of Kalifornia smog Naziville...San Diego County

DO IT...DO IT NOW.
You won't be sorry. Best thing I ever did on the CJ!!!
It's so nice reaching in and turning the key...AND IT STARTS

Really, I got mine from Howell too.
They actually had the best price at the time.
I've had it on for about 4 months now.
Just make sure you get the CA smog version.
You won't need to do anything extra to smog it.
I printed out the executive order so I can take it with me when I need to smog it next time.
I emailed CARB and they said you don't need to take it to a referee station or anything.
The only thing that wasn't in the kit you needed was a new air filter housing...perfect time to get a K&N.

Fuel injection after market air intake

well gentleman the trigger has been pulled! The Howell kit is on its way. thanks to those who made comments. I am putting together the parts needed to install. I know I need an intake? My question is there was a ton of options on ebay just days ago and now I cant find any?? What has everyone used?? K/N is the obvious choice but the redline Motorsport is another but I cant find them on Ebay anymore (their price is way better). open to all comments and suggestions. Thanks again you guys!! Bob

I pulled the air filter housing from an early 90's Chevy astro van. This would include the actual filter housing, the riser that sits between the housing and throttle body, and the center stud that holds it all together. Some cutting of the indexing tabs has to be done to get the orientation right for a CJ (self explanatory when you have one).

I then pulled the fresh air inlet hose from an early 90s Chevy S-10 or S-10 Blazer. This hose will attach to the Astro housing's inlet. I cut the length down so that the open end of the hose will attach to the fresh air intake on the back side of the driver's side headlamp bucket.

I have some pictures, but my photo hosting site is malfunctioning right now and has been for several weeks. I may need to use a different host as I don't know if the one I have been using will come back up.

With an open element filter like the K&N you get hot, underhood air rather than cool, outside air.

I picked up a cheapy cold air intake for a rice burner.
It's just a single pipe with a 90* bend, I used a silicone coupler
to hook it to the throttlebody. The a K&N cone filter on the end.
The band clamp on the filter side is also holding a small aluminum "L" bracket I use
to add stability to the intake. It's a nice solid mount, and a good setup.
Check your local autostore's rice section for ideas, or ebay. You can drill a hole
in the piping if you need to add a sensor.

Search "cold air intake" on ebay, you can cut an end off to get the desired shape you want to locate the filter where you want.
They are cheap one on there, also check the pipe diameter before hand so you don't have to use to many adapters.

I recommend a bypass valve also like in the pic below. Just cut the cheap cold air intake near the middle and install the bypass valve.
This is used in case the filter gets submerged, it'll open and bypass the filter to let the engine keep running and save you from drowning the motor.

Nice! You wont regret it!

I bought this one from Quadratec and it fits beautifully. K&N is the best quality, PERIOD!

Model # is 60-1120

This is a 9" filter and it BARELY clears the power brake booster. There are some 7" filters that will work perfectly with this set-up and will give you a little extra room, but I cannot find the part numbers.

Ive been running TBI on my jeep for approx 6 months and it works incredible.

If you need an intake/air filter search ebay for a 1988-1995 CHEVY TAHOE SUBURBAN TBI AIR FILTER

If you live in a city where you need to smog it, make sure the air cleaner you get for smogging it has a port for your PCV hose.
The EO says you can run an open element air filter.
Before you spend $$$ on a cold air system or some other kind or filter you may want to check with the Air Resources Board first.
